I’ve been looking to replace my Quad 2905s ( too imposing for our lounge although they work well).
At present I’m regaled by every model of the Masterpiece series being available used, and affordable, here in the UK. But space is the key problem in our 20’ x 13’ lounge. Could not get rear of ML cabinets more than about a foot from the wall. Either I have to think ‘smaller’ or move house before dipping my toes back into the ML pond.
So, I’ve discounted the 13 and 15 and am focusing on the 11 and 9.
I run Lyngdorf amps which feature healthy outputs (200/400 into 8 and 4 ohms), 40 amp current output, active bi-amplification and room correction software. They are fine with my Quads.
Two scenarios present themselves;
1) Use one amp to drive the 11As. I can either use ARC or Roomperfect to tailor the output to the room.
2) Either use one amp on the 9s leaving the links in place or remove the links and bi-amp. In either case I can use the Roomperfect as in 1.
Are the woofers in the 9s and 11s the same ( although they are configured differently (all that ‘sliding phase stuff in the 11s) ?
I have heard both MLs and the 11s sounded better driven by a Gryphon 120 but not heard the 9s bi-amped with room correction. Would the 2” panel width difference be significant ?
Gut feeling is I should try and move house first, but I am so tempted . ..
