Now 'Fish' .....you're obviously very young , for 'back in the day' young man that was a very well regarded arm ! ...that's OK though, I'm jealous of your "yout" !! LOL !

Justin, correct me if I'm wrong, weren't 'knife-edge' bearings utilized in that arm ??

Dave, I just said it was tasty, I didn't say I knew anything about it...

Anyway, what am I missing here? P.O.S. in my world means point-of-sale....

If anyone is interested in the arm, it's on ebay Au now. I think the bidding got up to about £750, but it has been re-listed due to a non-paying bidder. That's a lot of money for an arm that age, really.

You've no respect, Fish. That's a very nice piece of mechanical engineering from days gone by. I take it you won't be eating that particular tasty morsel, then:D

To be honest, I expect if you tried that arm now, you'd be surprised how damn good it is. I don't know that, of course, because that's a custom jobbie I've never heard, but I just tend to suspect it'll be very good indeed...

Cool pics. But what happened to the the 21st century?

Tubes, tonearms, analog VU meters?

Good God, did someone turn back a clock when I wasn't looking? :D

In the latest TAS there is a section on RMAF in which they mention that at a show to be held shortly in Portugal, only analog sources are allowed.

Old tech just looks better & tastier, I think. It's easy to see why.

1) Esoteric turntables versus CD players = something interesting to look at versus a box. Granted some CD players do look cool e.g. Oracle, Metronome etc. Some TTs also have some very nice visible precision mechanical engineering to appreciate, too.

2) Tubes versus solid state amps. Most SS amps just don't have that "I want one" aesthetic. Tubes have that sort of "Flash Gordon design" appeal.

3) Most HT kit is made up of boring boxes.

I appreciate there are always exceptions...

Hello everyone,

as you can see from this post, I am new to the forum. Great thread with cool photos!

Couldn't resist to post this picture of the Silbersand FM901 active loudspeakers...

They're all yours for only EUR 60,000 per pair;)

And yes, I'm not affiliated with Silbersand, but a big fan!

The twin five foot tall boxes in the middle are amps?

The big amplifiers in the middle is their top mono amps - The Sovereign - which can run on either 400V or 230V. Price €99000.
The amps are 150cm tall and can deliver 10Kw of power in 1ohm when run on 400V 3-phase power.

Several of these magazines outright declared it the "best amp EVER," which was definitely out of editorial character.
