This album, for me, is absolutely, utterly, and completely immortal. It is an absolute mega classic. Every bar, every chord, is deeply ingrained with my soul. I don't need to play it - I am part of it. It lives within me.
The memories of seeing them live at both the Electric Ballroom and the Hammersmith Palais have never been bettered by any other band. The choice of lyric is irrelevant for this album, for they are all excellent.
Of what do I speak? The Clash's first album, UK version of course. Lyrics whipped from a website for an easy life.
Deny - Strummer/Jones
Deny, you’re such a liar
You won’t know the truth if it bit you in the eye
Deny, you’re such a liar
You’re selling you no-no all the time
An’ you said we were going out to the 100 Club
Then you said “it ain’t my scene” then you turned up alone
Then you turned up alone
Deny, you’re such a liar
You won’t know the truth if it bit you in the street
Deny, you’re such a liar
You’re selling you no-no all the time
Then said you’d given it up
Gone an’ kicked it in the head
You said you ain’t had none for weeks
Baby I seen your arms
Baby I seen your arms
Deny, you’re such a liar
You won’t know the truth if it bit you in the eye
Deny, you’re such a liar
You’re selling you no-no all the time
Do you think I’m a raving idiot?
Just got off the boat
Step in live, sign this form
Baby ain’t got hope
You ain’t got a hope
[Backing vocal of ‘Whadda Liar’ [What A Liar] begins one line above ‘Deny’ and carries throughout the end speak-sing rant, fading out with the song]
Deny
You’re such a liar
Deny
Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie
Let’s here it for truth, you know like in the 12p comic
A jailbird's free, with ice cream
A boy meets girl, everybody gets run over
Everybody cry, but I don’t know why
I’m a fool, I can’t be cool, I read a-one to many books
I believe everything I read, when it's written in the slush-filled paper
Deny
You’re such a liar
