As an Industrial Designer by trade, the Shandling and Oracle players actually make me HORNY when I look at them.

Tim, Your'e actually getting me a bit nervous about "hooking" up with you when I'm out your way early Oct !!! Only kidding , I know what you mean , I believe that some of the reasoning behind the looks is to intice us analog guys into thinking digital playback can be as sexy as our analog pieces, namely turntables.

The Capitole Reference CD Player

Not to worry, unless you're of hard chisled and polished good looks like those players I mentioned above :p

I concur with your observation though, the digital gear I find most visually appealing bears a striking resemblance to good old analog turntables. I've posted a number of my favorites over in the turntable thread...

Apl Nwo-1

It does not look like much in this picture, but it's probably ranked amongst the top digital players in the audio circles...

THIS UNIT is an absolute piece of garbage! It uses a cheap plastic transport from Korea. My home audition with this junk ended after 15 minutes. Loose bass, disconnected overly polite sound; JUNK. My 6 year old Sony blew it away!

Should I have posted this image over in the ... Turn-Table thread? No, this is really a top-notch cee-dee player!!

It uses a custom-designed transport by Raymedia -- and it is built like a tank and sounds fabulous. So, I respectfully disagree...
