I recently noticed that my system was sounding a bit on the analytical side.

I discovered that one of the two drivers in each speaker did not power up. In one speaker, it was the forward firing driver. With the other, it was the downward firing driver.

Flipped the circuit breaker and when they powered back up, all was well.

AC is not connected to any PLC and are plugged directly into a dedicated 20 amp circuit.

Has anyone else had a similar experience or an explanation as to why this would occur?

I had similar experiences when I first got my Summits. Initially, the left speaker down-firing woofer intermittently went out. Turned out to be a LOOSE connector inside the cabinet (had to pull the woofer out to check the cable). Subsequently, I still had problems with woofers powering off in BOTH my right and left speakers. That issue was due to the Class D woofer amps going into protection mode (red light on)... presumably from power surges or brownouts (overhead fan and recessed lights were on same circuit as my audio gear). I solved that problem by installing a dedicated 20A line for audio, and have had no problems since. If you can't isolate the problem, I would certainly give ML a call.

I had the same situation as Sleepsurf when I first got my Summits, one of the lugs inside was loose on 1 woofer. All that was to remove the driver and use an electrician's pliers to tighen up the female connection so that it slight tightly over the spade lug.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the input.

Spoke with Mr. Powers this AM. His prognosis.

The early production models had a power supply board issue, which some have noted, caused issues with digital amps. Apparently what I am experiencing is also a performance issue with this board.

He is sending me two (2) new PS boards at no cost, even though the warranty on my speakers has expired.

Another great ML customer service story.
