These are cd's made out of a special plastic that claim improved sound.

Does anyone own any? Has anyone listened and compared to regular red book cd's?

Thanks

David,

Bought the Dire Straits / Love Over Gold.

Better sound IMO.

I have Dire Straits-"Dire Straits" and Steely Dan-"Aja" and a couple of Van Morrison SHM CDs.

I hear a little more detail and a tad better bass. They seem to be more open sounding IMHO.

The kind folks at Magnolia Hi Fi in the Universtiy disctrict in Seattle host some after hours listening parties on occasion and the last one I attended included a direct comparison of SHM vs. standard CDs from Silver Platter's.

They played a few examples like Led Zepplin II, Chicago, etc (so a full range) and everyone in the group agreeded that the difference was quite apparent.

My impressions were that they seemed fuller and more detailed.

Thanks. I was looking at one import cd that costs 3-4 as much as a regular red book cd. I will order and try a/b against a library copy. I will report back in a few weeks.
