Washington State Ferry in recent wind storm taken by a friend
The State of Washington (I lived in Puget Sound country for 40 years) has one of the largest passenger/vehicle ferry systems in the world. And sometimes it can get a little "lumpy". But the ferries keep running. These photos were taken at the Mukilteo Lighthouse Park on Oct. 18, 2007. Winds at 50+ mph. Shortly after these were taken, the loading capacity in vehicles was reduced by 1/2. "Issaquah" class ferries are 300 feet LOA, 78 feet beam, and displace 2477 tons unloaded. Ferry service is rarely shut down!
