I currently have a 5.1 home theater system with a Proceed Amp 5 driving my Aeon, Cinema, Fresco i & Descent through an Integra DTC-9.8 and want to add 2 more channels for 7.1, and am debating replacing the Proceed in favor of a Sunfire TGA-7200.

How do you think the Sunfire which is 200 WPC would compare to the Proceed which is 125 WPC? Both amps double down. Do you think this would be an upgrade or a downgrade from the Proceed Amp 5 considering my setup?

Haven't purchased the Sunfire yet, and don't have a dealer near me to demo it, especially with my setup. I was wondering whether the extra current from the Sunfire would make a meaningful difference.

The Sunfires have a very good reputation for driving difficult loads such as MLs. I do feel the Sunfire will be a very good match in your system. I agree that you should try to listen to it before committing. I have owned many Carver and Sunfire amps over the years and have been happy with every one of them. They are very well built and good value. Just know the newest Sunfire amps are not designed by Bob Carver. Take it for what it is worth.

Pick up a Sunfire stereo amp of agon. Either 200 or 400 wpc. Put it in your system and see what it sounds like. I would put it on the front two channels initially play some music and see what you think. It will probably make the Aeons sing. If you like it its a keeper. If you want more power for all channels then get the TGA-7200 or TGA-7400.

For the Frescos and Cinema I think the Proceed will be enough. No reason to buy all 7 channels when you just need 2.

I would suggest a 400 wpc Sunfire stereo amp for your Aeons. Keep the Proceed for the surround and center channels. You will not regret that decision, I promise you.

I agree with all of you guys Bob carver+electrostatics=MAGIC

FWIW, if you can find a Signature Series stereo amp (double the power of the regular stereo amp) it yields better dynamics (explosive!) than the regular Sunfire Stereo.
