With this past weekend behind me, and a great dinner with "some" of the Chgo contingent @ Rosebud Prime, I thought I'd raise the question for those that have traveled about as to their personal favorite Steak Houses and what towns they reside.

For starters here's mine, both of which are in one of my favorite Cities....Montreal !

Queve De Cheval

Moishes

I'll never forget the first time I walked into De Cheval...Bass player, pianist and drummer to my left and the bar was lined with Martini glasses packed and chilling with ice ! Somehow I knew I could come to love this place ! Oh yeah and the steaks were superb!

I never miss an opportunity to eat at Del Friscos Double Eagle when I'm in Dallas. :)

One of my favourite cities too, Dave....and it's only a 2-hour drive away for me.

"Méchant Boeuf" is supposedly good too.

I ate there once, and yes, it was good. The thing that stood out there was that the waiter suggested that the four of us share a whole lobster as an appetizer. The price for a small lobster was $105, for a large was $125.

Steak Houses!!!!

Some of my favs!

Charley's Steak House (Orlando, FL)

It's off of I-drive and can be jam packed at times due to the proximity to Universal Studios. But this place isn't to be missed. The atmosphere is very casual. I love the side dishes here! The fish and veal are also quite good. They have a cut of meat which is essentially the fillet of the fillet. Supposedly only two of these pieces are available per steer! The au poivre is awesome.

Three Forks (Austin, TX)

My girlfriend was on business travel and I went down to Texas to pay her a visit. After a long day of sight-seeing and boating (got a baaaaaadddd sunburn) we hit this place up. It's your typical high end steak house on the inside - dim lighting, dark colored/stained wood all over the place, and very attentive service. We really enjoyed our meals to say the least.

Andre's (Naples, FL)

This is a copy of Peter Luger's in Brooklyn. I believe one of the old chefs started his own steak house in Naples and his model was the venerable Peter Luger's in NY. You can only get Porterhouse, but the meat is exceptional. Just like the restaurant it tries to emulate, there aren't any table cloths or fancy furniture. My grandfather used to get steak sandwiches years ago from Peter Luger's, so this place is one of his favorites.

The Prime Rib (Philadelphia, PA)

This is my top choice of the steakhouses I visited. Jackets are required for the fellas after 5 or 7 pm. The decor is very upscale (you'll think you have traveled back in time to your high school prom, but this is even better). The prime rib at the Prime Rib is just amazing. It's a HUGE portion though, so don't eat anything for 2-3 days before visiting this place if you plan on ordering their signature dish.

I went to this place after I graduated from Villanova in 2001. It was a great meal and I'll never forget it because my family was there along with some friends and few professors from the school. We had a great time and I hope I can return there soon someday.

Queve De Cheval in Montreal is one of the best steak houses around. If I recall correctly they age the cuts for over 40 days. I recall talking to Dave about De Cheval during the ML get together in Laurence KS. It is a must try!!

In Chicago: Nine (order black and blue AKA Pittsburg rare)., Keefer’s and Gibson’s
In Japan: The Grand Hyatt in Tokyo (Kobe beef that cuts like butter).
In Houston: Taste of Texas
In Tampa: Shula’s Stake house

Just a few of my faves.

I live in Omaha, NE. There are quite a bit of local steak houses that use local corn-fed beef and a lot of them are great. But I'll make a list anyway:

Flat Iron Cafe (Omaha, NE)
More modern American/fusion restaurant but their steaks are very juicy and flavorful. So far they haven't overcooked my orders yet and that doesn't happen often.

Firebird Grill (Omaha, NE)
Best wood fire-grilled prime rib that's done right.

Fleming's and Ruth Chris

Taste of Texas (Houston, TX)
Awesome porter house here, different atmosphere too.

My house/friend's house - best cut after butchering a calf :D:D:D

To many to list! I travel so much its like a big blur of restaurants!

Its seems anyone these days can cook a fillet , How do you really screw up a loin. OVERCOOK IT ! A sign of a good restaurant is when they can cook a good Rib Eye , or a good Porterhouse !

Ill be in St.Lois Monday. Kansas City Tuesday and Omaha Wednesday. Ill try and get some local BEEF fare and see what the Midwest has to offer!

Ill try it! Thanks for the advice ! I needed a place to eat !;)

Although we have lots of chain steakhouses in Tampa (Flemings, Ruth's Chris, Shula's, others) the one-and-only Bern's Steak House (http://www.bernssteakhouse.com)... is IMHO, absolutely the best I've ever had. They have one of the most extensive wine collections in North America, and if you ever go, you must take their full kitchen/wine cellar tour, and then cap off your meal in their famed Desert Room.

You buying, Alan?

Just kidding. The prices actually seem reasonable considering the quality. I was also impressed with the overall layout of the menu and the helpful descriptions. Look at the detail for ordering the steaks with the various price breakdowns. Really, that is some first rate stuff!

Geeze, I lived in Florida for 25 years and now I am just finding out about this place?

...sounds like I need to visit the TB listening society...

"The Elbow Room" in Greenport directly above the hamptons on Long Island. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back.
Here in VA we have Bobby Vanns and Mortons, both of which are top shelf.
Dry aged, well marbled rib eyes, prime ribs and of course, the 3" thick Fillets...I'm starving now :D
