Oh yeah, this is gonna be a must have! I've got his Archives Performance Series on vinyl (three different albums)and the sound and the performances are outstanding. This is truly something for which to purchase a bluray player, if you don't already have one.

This might sound nuts to some, but I sometimes get upset about things like this. Here is why...

One of my favourite bands is The Cure. But they have incessantly re-released stuff over and over again... taking it way too far - right down to shoddy cassette tape recordings obviously made on ghetto blasters.

Now I expect this will give many the chance to hear some of his stuff as never before, but I just hope it isn't full of sub-standard rubbish.

Additionally, I have never liked compilations much... I always like to hear music sets recorded at a certain period in time - as albums usually are. They sound much more "of a piece", and present the artist for what they were at that time. I think that's really important.

That said, I really ought to have some Neil Young in my collection... and since he's a vinyl nut, I guess it has to be on vinyl, really, though I guess he thinks this stuff is OK at the sampling rate etc, and I am sure it is.

So, a few Neil Young album recommendations wouldn't go amiss... I'll check 'em out on Napster (low bit rate BS, but at least you can hear stuff without buying in full) beforehand, then maybe buy an album or two.

Thanks, in anticipation.

Justin, I'd recommend "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere", "After the Goldrush" and "Harvest" as starting points. "Live at Massey Hall" is a good overall perspective of this early period in Neil Young's long carreer too, and it's an awesome live recording.
