Yes it is!

And how much does that coolness cost?

Audiomeca does not produce transports any more, and the firm founder thinks it's a bad idea to buy one, because of missing spare parts in case of problems, but now and then you can still pick up such a transport off eBay at around $1500 -$2000.(for an example, see ebay item no. 280073160009).

I brought this up only because AFAIK they are one of the few which climbed the steep mountain of developing a proprietary transport mechanism for CD players. Additional read here: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/audiomeca/mephisto.html

Oh, thanks for the blue balls.

The Amazing ~ Lindemann 820 CD/SACD Player...

SugarMedia,

I should add the Lindemann 820 CD/SACD player. It has a custom built transport similar to the Marantz SA-7S1's player but Lindemann builds their own as well, I believe. :) In addition, the Lindemann 820 has a built-in Preamp for direct connection to amplifiers. The Lindemann is a very highly rated / reviewed CD/SACD player... The only thing is they are extremely hard to find in the USA, being a German company. I wonder how they sound? If you have the opportunity while your still in Europe I would check-out the Lindemann 820. ;) Sadly, their are no Lindemann's listed on Audiogon or e-bay USA...

Here's the transport in the Marantz SA 7, just to show MITT that they aren't all like the ones in his photo ;)

No doubt about it Beat, that's a purdy transport. Wasn't trying to imply that Esoteric was the ONLY company that knew how to make a transport, only that they are widely regarded as among the very best...:D

I was microns away from making this my own. Then I emailed with Pierre himself, and I desisted...he's a 50%Mitt 50% risabet ****tail. Nothing wrong with it, of course, but when you invested soo much in it, it's a pity...

lugano...what does that mean? I don't know if I should be offended or proud ;)

FWIW, I looked long and hard at the Audio Mecca Mephisto, but ultimately decided against it because of rumors of a lot of "reliability" issues. Certainly a beautiful piece of equipment though, no debate there.

You should be proud !

Pierre Lurne is a turntable guru. He began as such, he did a more or less brief excursion into the digital domain, became disgusted (although he won all the battles he decided to fight) and returned to his roots: making turntables.

On this forum, for me, the TT lords are Risbet and you, that's why I said that he's a chockhtail of you 2 :)

I won't argue with that, TEAC is doing great things in the Esoteric line.

Cool, thanks for explaining. I am flattered to be lumped in with Risabet as one of the the analog, turntable fanatics. I'd include Twich (Dave), Jeff Zarret and Karma in there too - plus others I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Robin,

I'll look into it. How difficult is it to change electronics (cdp or even an amp) from a 240 to 120v?

Wow, thanks!
