The CLX has a side panel as a component of the frame. Something the CLS does not. The purpose of the CLX side panel is to control the bass frequencies created by the flat bass panels but it should have an added benefit of adding a bit more rigidity to frame especially when compared to the CLS design.

Isn't that what I just said? Anyway, because of the increased rigidity of the aluminium frame in the Anniversary edition, I would expect it to sound different to the wooden implementation. I haven't seen anyone touch on this point yet. I reckon there WILL be an audible difference between the two at mid to high volume levels.

s2K, what a stunning pair of speakers! I can't wait to hear a pair. This will be difficult since my local dealer quit carrying MLs after they showed up at best buy. Tweeter used to carry them but went out of business in the DFW area. Boo hoo!

Bass from the CLX is only from the flat panels. The CLS has bass from both sides and mid bass from the center. The Side support on the CLX has a function of canceling the rear wave from mudding up the bass. The CLS has no support until you put stands on them and then its night and day difference. ML said them selves that the CLS SHOULD be on stands. They even said that the ARCICI was CO_developed by ML and ARCICI in a statement from ML in the late 90's.

As for the difference in sound from the Aluminum frame to the wood. I would think there may be a TINY bit but the Aluminum is not solid its a veneer type over wood. Probably MDF. Which makes a good dampener for a frame. Although its ugly to look at MDF is a good material to make speakers out of. It has great absorption characteristics and is stable as hell.

Guess the only way to tell would be an A/B comparison - not likely that many will experience that I would guess!!! Even then, since they can't sit in the same physical location, the difference caused by the location would probably be greater than the difference in frame material. They best way to compare would probably be to swap 'em out... and rely on memory. Thinking out loud here....

Anyway, the frame IS substantially different - so there will be significant diiferences in the way they respond to excitation. Just how much of an audible difference there is will remain unknown for a good while to Joe Public, I suspect.

HI Mr. user211
Plz go listen to a pair before making assumption or guess-timating what is suppose to sound like. I had a pleasure to listen and feel both the metal frame (anniversary) vs wood....other than rigidity issue and weight when carrying, I assure you there is absolutely no sound or construction difference. The anniversary simply has metal frame in the front and has 25 lit up in the back along with m symbol and clx. As far as sound difference....there are none unless people who makes the speaker tell me so. I'm not one of those who read the specs or reviews, I go and listen. If it sounds good to me, this is all it counts not what people or the reviewers tell me. Yes, this is a full panel speaker....Bass you get out of clx is exceptional....clean, solid, defined, and transparent.....not authoritive like driver speaker....This does not mean there is no bass....You simply have to go listen to it.....

S2K,

Very well put. This speaker is exponentially better than any speaker I have heard.

Hey all I can do is guesstimate until I cop a listen... thanks for your feedback anyway... and your assertion that you cannot hear a difference between the two. I am surprised by that to be honest...

I just thought it was an interesting point and a possibility that there would be a difference... but the fact you have heard both and made your selection based upon it is only to be admired.

It all depends on your taste and your taste in music, setup and room acoustics. For me, its plenty without the subwoofer.

Hm - looks like the Wilson's "won", but without any further info...:(

S2k - we'd all be really interested to hear why?

Pride of ownership will soon be replaced by pride of quick turnaround.

If you look at his other ad's it appears that he's also selling the Wilson's. Must be moving up the foodchain in a different direction.

My guess is he's either moving up to Statements, or his credit card bill came due

Some people go through a LOT of gear. I used to have a few friends back in the old days that would go through really expensive stuff every month!

Used to get great deals from those guys!!

I can't imagine getting a feel for something like the CLX in a week though.

That's just more money than sense.

but what about . . . . .

that fellow in China that had one (or a pair, depending) of everything in the audio cosmos, on several floors. To say nothing of his music collection. It wouldn't surprise me to learn the HE got the first CLX and has already A-B'd it with all his other stuff!
