This week end, a friend of mine lent me a CD called "Best audiophile Voices selection" (www.top2music.com). It is a 24 bit 196 recording of some fantastic female voices.

I have NEVER heard my Quests sound so sublime! The sound was like being at a live session! My wife who is more into home theatre than music was blown away. Not only did she really enjoy the music but also said she had never heard sound like that.

Goes to show how much regular redbook CD's are holding back great sound! This should of been the standard when the CD came out. Those into mp3's should listen to something of this quality and then they would maybe never load tunes again at 128kbs!

These are very good CDs I use them often as my reference. It is worth picking up all 4. They can be found often on ebay.

Just to make certain....it was a regular 44 khz 16 bit CD that you played, right?

The web site just gave a track list with no artist information, and I couldn't find out how to order a CD, or SACD.

Seems to me that's not a great way to do business.

Yes these CDs are 16 bit 44kHZ. I think these can be had in the XRCD format as well.

Same thing here. Go to Music Direct>

No on my cover it says 24 bit 196 remastering audiophile recording.

I plan on buying them all for sure! I did not know they were on Ebay.

I know there is a distributor in Canada as my dealer sells these but I also noticed on the website a lack of information. I will try to find out. MusicDirect is too expensive for us in Canada after all the shipping and duties.

It doesn't matter how they were remastered. If you're listening to conventional CD, you're stuck with 16-bit @ 44.1 KHz.

[Analogue bias]
Of course, real audiophile recordings are all-analogue anyway! :)

Is this the CD you're referring to?

I bought a handful of CDs in Thailand. As you can see I haven't opened this one yet. All of the 24bit, gold, XRCD, HDCD or KR2 CDs that I've played have been very good and in many cases rival SACDs. I whole heartedly agree that Redbook CDs can be excellent sources when done right!

And the front. The price tag says 600 Thai Baht which is about $16 US dollars.

Maybe I'll play it tonight and see how the CLSIIz's treat it.

Danman,

I live in Canada also, can you tell me who deals in these cd's.

Thanks

I got 2 when I was in Taiwan but you can get these off of e-bay new. They are very good and well worth picking up.

Thanks Craig - I have most of those albums anyway so I don't think I need to bother any more......

For what it's worth, they're all very good albums, so if you can track the complete copies down you'll end up with some very good discs in your collection.

Sorry for not responding sooner.

Yes Craig, that is the exact CD. I am not sure who the distributor is in Canada but my dealer where I buy all my stuff orders a bunch from time to time and sells them for 30$. May be a little more than some of you pay but well worth it sound wise. It makes you feel good to listen to something so clean after spending all that money on audio equipment. What is also fun is that the music itself is really good!

I am also a rock fan as well and was wondering if any of you would know of a distributor or a place in general where I could buy some really well remastered titles in Canada? Actually I am quite a Rush fan and I do know that they have remastered some of their older titles just don't know where or how to get them..................let me know if any of you would know.

Danman,

For the titles you are looking for go to www.audiobasics.com in Canada. Rush has a current remaster on the Mofi label that you can buy their as well as many other good titles and labels. Any amount over $100 and your purchases have no shipping charges. If you like Rush , you should watch the Snakes and Arrows concert in blue-ray. It is amazing!!!

Cheers, Greg
