HI ralfar,
You are wrong about what I want you to see. I want you to see what your imagination shows to you. If you don't like the picture then so be it. Your imagination is yours and yours alone. Visualization, I realize, is difficult for some folks and you may one those. For me, it's easy. I have always wondered about these differences between people.

Your strenghs are probably my weaknesses. And vice versa. Anyway, I do think you are right about some pictures which I will try to take tonight.

BTW, my new Oracle Delphi V with Turbo power supply with the black granite base, the attached Graham 2.2 Deluxe arm, and a Clearaudio Discovery cartridge are singing. I like it. I'm breaking the cartridge in right now and after 10 hours things are getting better. I'll do a critical set up after about 50 hours. What a beautiful rig.

Oop's, Ella just finished. I'll be right back.

I put on more Ella. She was my Mom's favorite singer.

Can any of you good people instruct me how to post a picture? I've never done it before.

Thanks, Sparky

Sounds like a nice table set-up. Haven't heard the new Clearaudio cartridges yet. My current lust is for a Shelter 90x.

On the color light wheels. Sounds cool for subtle back lighting. Just think you would want to make sure the two wheel colors stay in sync. Also how fast do the colors change. I would think slower would be better.

Karma,

Fair enough. Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.

I can imagine this, though: the effects of EMI/RFI from the switching power supply and from the motor. Hssss. Bzzzzt.

So if I was to visualize all of this, I will need a white suit, change my name to Tony Mannero, dance in a disco with many colored lights above and below to get the same affect? Maybe I should just take some LSD and that will give me the same affect and I can keep my eyes close.

Does it really matter as long one enjoys the music with either their eyes open or closed, cooking dinner, sitting and enjoying the company with family and/or friends, reading a book or magazine. The reason we have bought ML's and associated equipment is because we liked what we heard. If we so choose, we will improve where we can and afford to improve, other than that it is all fluff and smoke and mirrors.

HI Jeff,
The LSD is good idea. But, what is your point. You sound upset.

HI All,
OK, I've got some daylight pictures. They definitely are not as dramatic as nite photos which I will attempt after dark.

It will be a miracle if all this works. I really don't understand how to size the image but this will give an idea of what we are discussing. Hope it works.

A Photo of My New Oracle Delphi

HI All,
I couldn't resist. It's just too pretty and I had to show it off. Hope you think so too.

got some hard days at work, especially today...like 300 lines of code in 15 minutes, if you can picture that. Press return and it works. Nevermind - Karma, I'm, here, all ears. Actualy, all eyes. Your point (starring at them for 15 years, no change) is well taken, I can picture that. It's just that we should probably debate about colors. Beatles ? full rainbow. Classical ? full grayscale, some light yellow allowed here and there. New age ? from cyan 20% all the way to 100% cyan 100% yellow 50% black. Jazz ? hmm ... I'd like some seamless mix of black and red. Tough stuff. and then.. should it follow the music, or just shuffle colore registers at a calm pace ? Lemme tell you what I do when I want somethig special. I transfer the planned music to one of the portable macs we've got (3 of them) and I connect it to the video projector. iTunes, and G-Force. http://www.soundspectrum.com/g-force/screenshots.html. Impossible to beat - G-Force rulez. try it out, the static pictures don't give the real impact.

Karma,

Thanks for the photos. The light effect behind your CLS looks like I thought it would.

Your new turntable, on the other hand, looks gorgeous!

I was thinking, Larry Laffer? :D

Sparky,
I am not mad at all. It takes a lot more than this for sure. Although an interesting question in regards to how one listens to music, I think to each his own as regards to the listening environment. There are a multitude of variables at work here (hear:D) such as, equipment, people and the room (indoor or outdoors/environment. This difference, as well as the multitude of variations, mutations, modifications, and diversions which are present and always changing, is what makes this hobby so much fun.

HI ralflar,
Yes, I was concerned about noise, both electrical and audible. But I hear no negative effects.

Switching power supplies???? Where did you get that idea? This thing uses a simple AC motor that plugs into the wall.

OK, you don't like the idea. You have made your point. Why spoil the fun for the rest of us? I don't get it. While some of us are trying to explore an idea in a positive tone, you insist on throwing fuel on YOUR fire. Weird!!! If you continue Tom will have intervene. Is that your objective? It certainly is not mine. I’m sorry Tom.

hey hey hey... Karma, take it easy ! Nobody is trying to spoil - here at the ML Club we are a nice, relaxed and funny family. Sometimes the old latin saying "verba volant scripta manent" is true, however. If we were both walking in a park and I'd tell you with a grin "you know, Rotels suck, and your rainbow-behind-the-CLS sux-even-more, let's go have a beer", you'd grin too, and everything would be ok. But somehow, exposing all this in written words for everybody to see it hits people - they might be in the wrong mood, not prepared to take it cum grano salis, on a friday evening after a week's work routine - you name it - and then disaster happens. Cheer up !

Throwing fuel on fire? Now that is the proof that my imagination really is not half as developed as your's. If Tom sees a reason to intervene then I guess that it is just my karma.

HI All,
I attempted to take some night pictures. I could not really capture the true effect so I not going to post them and waste server space. The pic above is descriptive enough. One thing you should be aware of. Even during the day in my dim room the exposures are about 4 seconds long. This is enough time for the color wheel to cycle through several colors. The camera combines the colors and result is a mixture of colors. In actual use, the colors are pure and sequential as the wheel passes in front of the lamp.

Also, the picture gives a false indication of the brightness of the color effect. It is actually dimmer and softer. I need to get better with Photoshop to capure this acurately.

Sparky

Karma,

I've got some little LED candles that cycle through color similar to what you describe. I turn them on at night and they add a nice glow behind the speakers. They change color very slowly, and to my mind lend a nice ambiance to the room when combined with the lights coming off the components and the glow of tubes through top covers.

Got to tell you that your Oracle is a thing of friggin' beauty! Should give you many many hours of aural pleasure. They do something very special with their Industrial Design.

Happy Listening :D

As you can see in this picture, I use some color changing LED based lights in some uplight cans behind my rear Sequels to throw some color wash onto the white 2D diffuresrs behind them.

Also the room is ringed with EL wire on the valance that goes around the room.
That was fun to install, had to buy >168' of the stuff to do this room and build custom power modules for it. But the look in the room is astounding.

I use Z-wave based automation plugs and switches to manage the various 'scenes' in the room. The color wash is part of the 'Music' and 'Intro' scenes.

The automation PC (controlled via a tablet in the room) or one of two Z-wave remotes lets me manage the lighting.

Visitors are pretty taken by the look of the lighting in here:

I think we've uncovered a new passion... Lightophiles, or better yet, Luminophiles! :D

Ha! And next we'll need to divide into various "illumination" camps... arguing which sounds better... Incandescent (incl Lava), Fluorescent (incl blacklighting), LED, Other

Let the "Light Wars" begin!

And let's not forget Candles... (don't flame me).
