OK - CLX Anniversary in the UK is £22,500 - that's around $45,000, or double the US list. I won't be owning a pair anytime soon. Nor will many other UK audiophiles...

Maybe I should get a job across the pond... have me 20+ years of IT skills and they're even up-to-date - so someone should give me a job. Well, maybe...:D

Actually, I have been less than kind about some of the CLX aspects on these forums but there is always a bit of the "I want a pair really" aspect looming in the back of the mind, which defies all logic.

Forget about logic. It costs nothing to dream !:band:

The best dream I have at the moment is the 9 days in Hong Kong in August, when I am hoping a Koetsu Urushi Wajima makes it into my pocket at a very nice price compared to UK list:rocker:

Anyway, ML, build that UK based factory IMMEDIATELY... whereupon I guarantee purchase of a pair of nice new Spires!

Now you are making me lust. :( I have a thing for Koetsus.

Yup, I have a VERY nice Rosewood, but it is long in the tooth, and needs updating.

Sling me some dollars and I'll get you one in HK!!!:D

Seriously, you can buy in the US direct from HK via an ebayer. Send me a private message for his ebay id - he IS reliable - a friend bought 2 Rohmanns from him very cheaply and they were fine.

Here's his price list:

Koetsu Coralstone Platinum at US$5,800-
Koetsu Tigereye Platinum at US$5,800-
Koetsu Rosewood Signature Platinum at US$4,410-
Koetsu Rosewood Signature at US$2,800-
Koetsu Urushi Vermillion (Red) at US$3,180-
Koetsu Urushi Wajima (Gold) at US$3,180-
Koetsu Urushi Tsugaru (Black) at US$3,180-
Koetsu Rosewood Standard at US$2,000-
Koetsu Black at US$1,340-

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately a new Koetsu is just a pipedream for me right now.

What price were you expecting in the UK? Nearly everything costs much much more in Europe as compared to the US and the exchange ratio is probably worse right now than it's ever been. I'll bet the average salary is also much higher in the UK than in the US. I just came back from Stockholm, Sweden and everything and I mean everything is incredibly expensive as compared to the US. Stockholm is a beautiful city and I enjoyed every minute of it but it is good to be back in the US where my dollar is worth something.

Well, this country is known as "rip off Britain", where we expect to pay much more than most other countries.

Based on the Summit mark-up- I estimated on another thread that the standard CLX would come in at around £17K. Absolute Sounds, the UK importer, obviously does not concur with my estimate!

The UK government import tax probably doesn't help, though it may be that the importer can claim that back... but a private "import" would incur about a %23-24 on the US retail as import tax, plus the huge shipping charge, plus no warranty.

Average salary in the UK is £21,900 against $38,611 (£19,900). So we earn a bit more at current exchange rates (10%), but not MUCH more.

Just thought - we are much more heavily taxed than US citizens. An average salary earner probably loses appreciably more than 1/3 of his salary in income tax, and an absolutely staggering amount in other taxes - e.g. VAT, fuel duty, council tax etc etc the list is endless.

Death and taxes, indeed.

Too bad the voltage is so different between the two countries. Otherwise, it would be worth it to buy speakers in the US and have them shipped abroad.

When I sold my Aeon's I had a couple of offers from the UK but unfortunately the 50Hz/60Hz issue was not so easy to convert making the US spec'd speakers unusable in the UK.
