It is mentioned here often that you should not have an equipment rack between your speakers as it messes up imaging.
In my setup there is no rack between my speakers, but I do have a rack to the right of my right speaker (pictures of my left and right speakers attached).
What I have noticed is that I get a nicely focussed central image when I'm listening to a singer, and I hear instruments to the left of my left speaker (the effect is great!), but nothing to the right of my right speaker. I've noticed this on many recordings (vinyl and digital).
So I was wondering if the equipment rack is what is causing the lack of instruments to the right of the right speaker.
My wife would like me to get a lower rack, so that it's less obtrusive visually, when funds permit. To the acousticians out there: do you think this would help?
