Speakers are damaged badly. Now I have to wait for new ones to be built and delivered. I can only hope that the next delivery goes much better. Ill keep you posted.

Bad luck. It seems freight companies just aren't very good with big heavy packages.

Nevermind. When they show up they'll be awesome.:) If it is any consolation I waited about 8 months from order for my current speakers.:D

Hey Pete... really sorry to hear it! Do you favor the Art design over the anniversary? If so, at least there's a silver lining (or stainless steel, given the newer binding posts etc... never mind).

For me, when the courier destroys the freight - I'm fracked for the obvious reasons, but find myself especially sad/mad over the pure waste of it all. What will happen to those wrecked CLXs? Do you suppose ML will reclaim and attempt to salvage what they can?... or is the effort/time not worth it from a business cost perspective so it's then straight to a landfill somewhere? It really fries my cheese to think that's the likely end-result.

Anyway... time for the ketchup song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NwP3wes4M8

Hi TSV 1,
They will just get their insurance money I suppose. Great video as that brought me back to many years ago when I was actually young :)

Best,
Bob

Hey Todd, I really did like the 25th Anniversary style, but the Arts are very impressive looking as well, I ordered the Dark Cherry.

I highly doubt these will see any repair or recon, due to the fact that they were from a dealer that had them in stock and the buyer backed out on the purchase, hence why I got a good deal. Plus one speaker from what i am told was crushed.

Im hoping to have my new set by years end....the waiting....

I hate to ask Necro, but since you are getting a new pair rather than a pair from a cancelled order, are you going to have to pay more?

T minus ? and counting

I'm gettin' antsy! I just PINGED-THE-HELL out of my dealer asking where in blue-blazes my CLXs are. This is getting ridiculous. Yes, he gave me outstanding pricing, yes he shipped the F112s quickly and efficiently, yes, I've had good experiences with him on other past purchases... but the combination of prolonged delay, freight horror stories, and sheer nail-biting pain (around the index finger cuticles especially)... well, it's enough to drive a guy to drink. Hey, how'd this bottle of Dewar's get here?

On the plus side, I've fired up the new subs and I gotta say I'm shocked at how effortlessly they integrate with the Maggies. I've never heard anything like it before... and I haven't even run the room correction function yet! Are they 100% seemless? No, but darn near, and I've only initially twiddled the controls. They're already waaaay better than any other sub I've ever had, even after days/weeks/months of painful adjustment, placement, re-calibration, etc. This was a great audio add for me (almost dislocated my shoulder with all the self back-patting). And for a multi-sub setup, the Slave-mode is friggin' brilliant!

I will say this about that last octave... it is AMAZING how much recorded information sits down there in the audible/tactile sub-basement. I'm hearing/feeling TONs of cues, presence, environmentals, etc that I didn't even get with the exemplary active low-end of the Summit X. Frightening really as I keep thinking there's some other event in the house that's contributing to the sound... when in fact, it is the recording(s)! Can - not - wait to pair these JLs up with the MLs for a little audio-porn... now, where'd I put those little pills?

Well... will keep you posted on the mega-delay drama.

Pete... any further update on your situation or is it all pretty much off your plate while you await replacements?

Cheers

Hi Todd, Gordon here. I've been following your adventure with the CLX and find your writing style is quite amusing and enjoyable!! I also have a pair of JL 112's as a stereo pair and find them to be quite accurate.

Gordon Gray is planning on visiting over the holidays and hopefully he can validate the performance of the JL's. I think they really add a nice, solid bottom to the presentation. Best bucks I've spent yet after the room treatments which my wife so graciously allows!

Hi Gordon, Thanks much for the kind words :) I enjoy journaling the adventure through the ups, downs, furrowed brows, and acid reflux and it is genuinely gratifying to receive your positive feedback. Most appreciated!

So, two Gordons, two F112s, and two Spires (assuming you're still running the Spires?)... I'll assume the shots will all be doubles as well ;)

Please let us know how the listening session goes... there is absolutely nothing as useful and helpful as shared expert impressions on the very equipment one has in their setup... yours and Gordon's, I mean the other Gordon, Gordon... well, you know.

Aren't gracious wives the best!?! I married mine because of her grace (and solid moral compass which I've desperately needed all these 18+ years, and will continue to need until my own compass points 6 ft straight down.)

Thanks for stopping in and please keep posting - cause hey, that's what this whole on-line doohickey forum thingamajig is all about, dagnabbit! (I plan to be a quasi-foulmouthed curmudgeon in my golden years... just practicing)

Cheers

OK, this post is for one reason only... I will not allow this thread to be out-posted by that alarmingly noisy neighbor thread over there... you know which one I mean (hint: Service Notice for Discontinued Products).

I will not stand for it! (being out-posted I mean... I have no comment on the actual posts over there... to each his/her own).

end transmission (for now... but I'm watching you service thread... here's where I'd stick an emoticon that does that thing where he uses two fingers to point to his own eyes with a menacing scowl and then to the eyes of his antagonist).

Which reminds me... TOMDAC, can we import some more Smilies? We need more variation in expression... or at least some of us with limited emotive writing skills do (i.e. me).

ok, really end transmission now...

end transmission (for now)

No problem. Just say something to piss me off . . . and this thread could go on forever.

OK, That's a noble cause I'll throw in a couple of posts to help out. I was raised in a traditional American family with two loving parents. Money was short but love was long. I always wondered how it was for those in a disfunctional family. Wandering through that neighboring thread gives me a taste of disfunctionality. (Just an observation don't throw rocks at me)

If you look at the stats your goal looks difficult. Something akin to the Clippers winning an NBA championship. This thread has been up for a month but the neighbor has been there for only 4 days and you are currently tied.

Regards,
Gary

Todd,

The CLX boxes have been described as coffin sized. For sure this is true. My CLX's are the 25th Anniversary and so fully boxed they weigh about 200 pounds each. The freight truck driver dropped them off in my garage in the afternoon. I had scheduled some friends to come over to help me move the coffins and set up the speakers but the speakers showed up 3 hours early. My God, 65 feet away from audio Nirvana and nobody to help. Well, not quite nobody, I do have a wife. My wife is 4' 9" tall and weighs 103 pounds. She's a great cook but not much help with the heavy lifting. With Nirvana calling, I stuck my head in the door and ask her to come and give me a hand. She came to the garage and ask what I wanted her to do. I instructed her to stand at the base of the speaker. I went to the top end and started to lift. Suddenly she asked me why I wanted her to stand there. I told her that if I lost control I wanted something to break the fall of the speakers. My wife said I needed to get my priorities right and I replied "I have". Well we did get them wrestled into place and I have been welded to the sweet spot ever since.

Beautiful! True love is a wife that understands the real meaning of self-sacrifice. ;) Also, thanks for the pic. A simple image like that really helps me to mentally prepare for the pending delivery. And I have to say, you're garage looks eerily similar to mine re: precariously stacked items lining the wall, though my treasures may reach slightly higher elevations (not that this is a competition).

BTW, I did a quick post search and found some pics (a few months old now) of your setup. The stack CCs are unlike anything I've ever seen, beyond cool :) Would you say you're still as in-love with the CLXs as when you first dialed them into your room? I enjoyed your comment about how they sounded so good you forgot football season had started. Now THAT's saying something!

Cheers
