Hello,
I am New to thsi group and have Huge favor to ask you guys about matching Carver AL III + Ribbon speakers with ML Cinema center speaker.

I would love to keep my Carvers and set up HT sytem but my problem is in finding right match for center speaker.

Carvers have 4" Dipole Ribbon & woofer 10" Quasi Butterworth 3rd order in down fire pattern.

I am thinking to use only Ribbons in Home teather system and replace woofers for powered subwoofer , I own very nice old Chiro Mesa C 150 and C-190 mono amp to power my sub.

Frequency responce: 24Hz to 20KHz
Impedance: nominal 4 ohms ( carvers are power hungry speakers) I use two amps to run them.
Ribbon crossover : Ribbon operates from 150Hz to 20 KHz

I hope anyone here could help me find good soundiing and matching center speaker.
I would love to use Cinema center speaker but befor I spend lot of money , would like to get second opinion.
Thank you all for your time and great advices.
Best Regards,
Les Korcala

Hi Les,

If trying to match a planar magnetic Carver AL III, why not use another ribbon from the same ingenious mind and use a Sunfire CRM-2C?

As much as a cinema is a great speaker, I feel a good ATF or ribbon would be a better solution.

So you could also look at a MartinLogan Fresco as a good alternative, as it has the ATF planar magnetic tweeter.

These should all match a bit better to the AL III.

Cheers,

I would also look at a Magnepan Center. I think this will be a very good fit with your carvers. Good luck.

Carver Ribbons

Thanks very much for tips with center speaker for my ribbons.
I forgot about Sunfire Cinema speakers, it's all makes sence to match ribbon to ribbon to get best sound.

I will also look in to both other choices & hear for myself.

Thanks again,
