I share your thought about Buddy... It reminds me of a time when Johnny Carson had Buddy Rich on his show. As you know Johnny Carson was a decent drummer in his own right, but anyway they both played in tandom on two drum sets with the Carson players (Doc Severson)... It was fantastic. Buddy was so good he drummed circles around Johnny, which made it a gag and very funny.

They are both playing up a storm in heaven somewhere, I have a feeling.

second pert, copeland and buddy....all are awesome. dont forget john molo....he blows me away regularly.

as for nice drum recordings.....have you checked out planet drum by mickey hart (one of the grateful dead's drummer)? he plays an earth drum, which has a head on it that is like 20ft wide and is played with a 5ft mallet. feels like it even pushes the 20Hz limit......you will be hard pressed to find a percussion instrument that goes lower. not to mention airto, flora, baba and the other amazing drummers on that album.

This topic is very special to me as I've been playing drums for over 20 years now.

Most of the above mentioned drummers (Buddy Rich, John Bonham, Neil Peart, and others) are indeed awesome. Some of those above, however, aren't technically great and I think that's apparently to even non-drummers. I also agree that the old classic jazz days produced a great lot of talented drummers.

That said here are some who gets my votes:

Great recommended Drummers John. Are you currently in a band as well?

My oldest son is a superb drummer. Although, drumming did have other problems and challenges, which he had to address and ultimately pay the consequences. Hard times for us all... Anyway, my son has been playing since he was eight years old. I took him to private drum lessons every week, till he was sixteen. I have extreme respect for good drummers. It is a difficult instrument really and has many styles and techniques. I'm in awe of gifted drummer like my son. We played together, me on the guitar and singing, of course and my son on his drums. I was always astounded by his drumming creativity and talented rhythmic abilities with music.
