There is already continual reports of Classical as a genre on its way out.
That would be a shame as there is so much wonderful stuff out there. Personally I don't think it will ever die. We are still listening to stuff that was composed hundreds of years ago; most of the stuff today will not be around in a hundred years - and no one here will be around to prove me wrong!

Bernard,

You really don't think they'll be listening to Brittany 200 years from now?

Well, some good news may come out of all of this. According to this article, the Record Companies are planning on scaling back their investments in the RIAA and it is going to abandon its plan to sue file sharers. That seems like a positive step to me. The RIAA and its ridiculous decisions, in my opinion, has been more destructive to music sales than just about anything else. Instead of bringing anything positive to the brand, it has made us all love to hate the record companies. What foolish marketing strategies.

Sources: RIAA budget will shrink soon

With respect, I wouldn't call the "anyones" on your staff "typical" of average 20-something consumers. Right?

Even if they were typical when they started, once they've been exposed to what you have the capability to expose them to, I don't think the would be anymore!

three of our four twenty somethings are still just music people, with barely more than an iPod.. I wanted them for just that reason, excitement about music without being swayed by the gear.

They think I'm nuts, but always ask me which AC/DC album to buy!

It's a lot of fun....

I agree wholeheartedly Bernard, for as I attend the Kimmel Center in Phila 3-5 times per year I continue to take note of younger people in the audience.

FWIW, just look at all the "Old Rockers" that have come out with newer alblums in the past five years or so and have embraced Orchestral accompaniment !

That's about the best news I've heard in a long time! In keeping their own pockets lined, the RIAA have done more to destroy the music industry than anyone else.

Granted, I still think the biggest barrier to becomming an audiophile is actually knowing that this stuff exists.

The key is that there are a ton of people out there that enjoy music, and would even purchase a fairly good music system, but they DON'T want to become audiophiles, or get another hobby.

That's the trend that's changing the industry.

Many people I've talked to have said they would happily purchase 10-20k maybe even more, but could care less about cables, room treatments, setup, tweeks, etc. They just want to enjoy music more than they do on a BOSE or similar mass market device.

Often times they will say "I don't have to get all caught up in this cable thing, do I?"
