What Are You Listening To Right Now?

Just finished this fantastic example of well recorded progressive metalcore, everything is just so balanced and clear. You can listen and pick apart all the different layers, definitely a 10/10. Also the $35 record weight from Amazon is an outstanding valve.

    Obsessive hobbies....

These are R100s and as I understand they're something you'd run on an actual race car competing in Touring car or something. But it's all good because they were really cheap

    Obsessive hobbies....

I actually drove it to the track on the slicks lol, don't tell the police. They take absolutely forever to get up to temperature so I don't think I'd really recommend them for a track day tire with sessions being 15 minutes or so. I felt they didn't start to really get grippy until the 3rd...

    Obsessive hobbies....

Here's a few photos from my last track day. I picked up a set of bright red CCW rep wheels wrapped in Hoosier R100 racing slicks. If you look very closely you can see I'm wearing a fighter pilot helmet in the photos 😅

What causes panels to wear out?

My Aeries I speakers are from 1989 and as far as I know still have the original panels, they still have the stickers on the back from London Audio in Ontario Canada where they were purchased new. When I bought them used the panels were crazy dirty and washed them with Simple green organic...

New house, new adventures, new problems

@DanR unfortunately I don't have room behind unless I build it into the cabinets below the counter. Although I do have some room directly beside the couch or possibly inside the couch if I get creative. I'm actually very surprised how well the RCF 21" woofer sounds all on its own, I get really...

New house, new adventures, new problems

Little update, over the weekend I decided to give the speakers a new paint job to match my cabinet and bases. These turned out fantastic and I'm really thrilled with how well it ties everything together. The original black wasn't in the best shape being over 20 years old. After messing...

    Building Custom Home Theater

All of this is stunning, very nice work on the theater, the house isn't bad either 😜

New house, new adventures, new problems

@JonFo you're definitely correct on the lack of symmetry but in the real world is doesn't really cause much issue. That speaker is also over 6ft from that back wall with the subwoofer and I really like looking through those transparent panels lol. I'm going to be adding room treatment...

New house, new adventures, new problems

It's actually just red cedar from the hardware store, I took 2X4s and sliced 1/4" off each side to square them then clamped & glued them. I sanded from 60 grit to 220 then used Rubio Monocoat to finish it

New house, new adventures, new problems

So I got the cabinet top finished this afternoon and got my system all back together finally. This is the first time hearing it with my new Krell preamplifier and with the speakers properly isolated from the floor. I gotta say this all made a really big difference, just getting the speakers on...

New house, new adventures, new problems

Thank you! I'm extremely happy with how everything turned out, so much so I'm debating on painting the black MDF portion of my speakers to match. Unfortunately the beechwood top I had made was NOT anywhere near as dry as what it was supposed to be and has since started cracking and warping. I...

ESL 3 Inherited for an outdoor shed

It's the most counter intuitive thing ever "just wash them off in the shower" and yeah it works lol. Mine got washed over a year ago due to all the filth on the panels and they're still running today.

New house, new adventures, new problems

AV stand and speaker bases all painted up, the finish matches a car I used to own that I painted years ago. I did the base plates to match Just received my Krell KRS 2 preamplifier 😁. This thing is an absolute work of art both inside and out, the 2 chassis and power brick weigh about 50lb...

    Upgrade bug is biting

I had always assumed they designed these with a specific listening distance in mind. With level controls and active X overs you can make them work at any listening distance.

    Upgrade bug is biting

You need to remember that the panel is a line source and the woofer is a point source so both of these behave differently depending on the distance. As a test, disconnect the woofers and play only the panels. Stand in front of the panel and slowly walk towards the back of the room, then do the...

ESL 3 Inherited for an outdoor shed

Clean them well and put them back together to try. You've got nothing to lose. FYI to everyone, simple green contains no chemicals and is a natural cleaner. I used it on my panels when I bought them because they were filthy.

New house, new adventures, new problems

Hello everyone 🙂 Last December I finally purchased my first house and have been very slowly getting things sorted out. I've finally set aside some time to get my whole audio system setup and dialed in, not just pushing out sound. Earlier this week I started playing vinyl every night just to...
