I'm very happy driving my Spires with a pair of PrimaLuna ProLogue Seven monoblocks. For the money in your budget, you might be able to get into a pair of their big brothers, the DiaLogue Sevens. FWIW, I prefer the longer interconnect, shorter speaker cable approach.

True on both counts! RixRax is based in Vernon, the next city north of me. I've seen a few examples of his work--pretty impressive.

Excellent news! Apart from the sonic benfits, I think a room looks tidier without a jumble of stuff between the speakers (except, perhaps, a pair of mono blocks on the floor).

I'm not Jeff, but that sounds like a pretty good deal to me--especially if you have the shekels to make it happen! IIRC, the Reference Phono 2 retails for $12k.
