Where I live (BC's Okanagan) is very dry and we don't have much of a dust problem, so I don't cover my Spires. That said, I DO vacuum the panels every month or two, to keep them clean and sounding their best.

I haven't been visiting here enough recently--something I must try to fix! Alas, there are only so many hours in a day... PS: Probably not going to make it to SSI this year. Too much other stuff happening, but will try to be there for 2013!

Humour noted, but just in case it's a serious question: valve is short for thermionic valve. Presumably "therm" from the heater, "ionic" from the ion cloud, and valve as in shut off valve (or tap).

+1 I would also caution against buying a used TT unless you can be sure that its been well looked after and will be shipped in proper packaging.

We have some friends who recently moved to Dubai for a 2 or 3 year contract. They like it so far, and others have posted, provided that one is reasonably smart and observes the local cultural conventions (remember: you are a visitor to their country), everything should be OK. I'm hoping to visit...

One way to check: compare the serial numbers on the actual speakers to those on the boxes. If they match, I'd say the odds of them being B stock rises significantly! The Ethos is about 33% cheaper than the Spire, so getting the latter for the price of the former falls into the "if it's too good...

Ta muchly! Is the Collection a standalone edition, or is it one of the monthly regulars? I think the November edition of HFC has just arrived here (the one with the free setup CD), so I was thinking that the Collection took the place of the October edition.

It IS much worse than the good old days (which is why I don't buy it--and its price is prohibitive), but I like keeping the Collection editions. :-)

Yep; Ref 5 preamp IIRC, and ARC's new (as in, unannounced at this time) Ref 250 monoblocks. The cables are Nordost Odin. It was great seeing you at RMAF again. Hopefully next year I'll get to meet a few more MLCers. :-)

I'm very sure I'm in the minority here, but most of the CDs in my collection that I would want to listen to will indeed fit into my 32 GB iPhone. Of course, digital accounts for only a small fraction of my music library, which is on vinyl and is the source for all of my serious listening!

Why would you do that? You can hook up a decent DAC to your iPhone/iPad, bypassing the crappy internal one, and get most (if not all) of the benefit of lossless compression.
