    Soundlabs vs. Logans

The original is on an interesting web page by Philip Greenspun. The speaker shown is a Sound Lab A-1 which Philip owns. Philip is a brilliant fellow and owns the website photo.net, a remarkable resource. As an aside, I suggest we're all grownups here and don't need to have what was intended as...

Dig Down Deep... Devilishly Deep... Behold Other Subterranean Subwoofers Out There...

Interesting thread. One of my clients is contemplating two of the Thigpen rotary woofers to augment arrays of Sound Lab Majestics for a no holds barred home audio and home theater system. He is very much into organ music, and the Thigpen woofers are the only ones that will do justice to 32 ft...

Yeah, you might want to just listen to music. :D

    Why We need Audiophiles..

When you sift through all the hype you realize Mikey is rather a bit of a self promoter. Make no mistake about it, he is knowledgeable to a degree and he can hear, but based on conversations with those who've been there, I'm not so sure his knowledge really includes turntable setup, much as he...

    The Mozart Effect

Thanks, David. I googled "Mozart effect research" and found some interesting links: Definition Skeptic's dictionary comments Is there anything to it?

    King Sound ESLs

Mantana, I agree with you about the Quad ESL (57s). They were my reference for a long time. I still have them, although they have been in storage. And to a point I agree about the King's speakers being a value at their price. You have to weigh the total cost of ownership, though, which will...

$ is No Object Your Ultimate Amplifier for ML's...

Why bother, when you could have a pair of these bad boys (500 watt Class A dual chassis OTL monoblocks) and turn off your heat for the winter? Thankfully, separate banks of output tubes can be switched on and off as power requirements change. Ironically, a customer of mine who lives in a...

    Mss hifi

Spectral: A very perceptive post. If I didn't already say it above, it is not my place to comment about other retailers without reason to believe there is something less than honorable. The sales policies #3 and 4 to which I referred in my first post in this thread can be seen in an archived...

No apology necessary, Gordon. His M.O. and 'ethics' regarding new equipment become apparent, though, when you read this page on his old website. Clearly gray market, to which I take exception and think others do, too, including educated consumers. I have no problem with him offering used...

    Mss hifi

Fish and Gordon, you are free to think what you want, but my comments are based on a lot more facts than presented and given for the purpose of alerting others to what they might overlook. A price is a price, but there are many retailers who work their backsides off supporting customers and...

    Mss hifi

Johnny Boey, formerly d.b.a. JB Audio Pimp. I advise reading his sales policies before doing anything...they will make you cringe, especially #3 and #4. They refuse to answer a lot of questions. Gray market, except for a few lines--i.e., no warranty. I know of one manufacturer that supposedly...

A Different Opinion on the CLX

Google "Enid Lumley" sometime for some really far out stuff. And then there's Geoff Kait of Machina Dynamica. His Teleportation Tweak wins the prize. On the other hand, his early vibration control products such as the Nimbus really work and are based on sound (pun intended) principles...

    ByeBye Rotel ~ Hello Parasound

As a Parasound Halo dealer I can fill you all in. The C 2 AV controller, as well as the C 1, have been discontinued. The C 3 AV controller will be introduced this summer, I believe, and has several new features, notably HDMI compatibility. I have been in touch with Parasound president Richard...

Stereophile on CLX: system kicked ass in a way that was difficult to credit to 'stats

Thanks. The falling impedance below 900 Hz is unusual for an ESL - the falling impedance above 1 kHz is much more what I expected. Why is that? Do all MLs exhibit such impedance curves? And repeating my earlier question, how many step-up transformers are used?

Stereophile on CLX: system kicked ass in a way that was difficult to credit to 'stats

Forgive me for asking, but what does the impedance curve of MLs (let's say Summits) look like? How many step-up transformers are used?

    CES vs RMAF

Simple. CES is a trade show, while RMAF is for consumers. Almost anyone can get into CES, and yes, there are things you don't see at RMAF, but I think RMAF is more fun for the consumer.

    Music Store or Museum?

Lots of stuff indeed. Speakers include Avalon Sentinels, Watt Puppies, YG Acoustics, Magnepans, B&W Nautilus, Rockport Altairs, Kharma Exquisites, JBLs and TADs, and many others. MLs also appear on page 8, and ML Statement E2s can be seen on pages 26, 27, and 31. I'd be curious to know where...

Great Time at Da Vinci Media

Howdy Gordon, I haven't heard of such a place named that out this way. I've lived in the area since '88. If you're ever back this way look me up!

Great Time at Da Vinci Media

Yes, I sold one in the brief time I had them. On a price basis they beat a lot of active units and I am reasonably certain are the best of the passive units available.
