    Descent Hum problem

It's ground loop. http://www.martinloganowners.com/~tdacquis/forum/showthread.php?t=3229&highlight=descent+hum That's a thread that goes into some depth about the issue. My recommendation is to get one of these http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CleanBoxII/ for $45... You should be...

All good subs...but I'd go for a good servo sub before anything else. Velodyne's DD series are good...so are the MLs. The finals say they roll of at 65Hz...but that does not mean that they can play very loud at 65Hz, or very cleanly...it just means that the frequency response is still within...

I did a mini review of the finals when I first got them in the off-topic a/v forum...but I'll paraphrase. While the MLs were wonderful with certain types of music...jazz, vocals, etc...I had 2 issues with them...midbass weight and a certain "harshness" I was hearing. Finals have fixed both...

Yeah...you're missing the BASS. The finals don't claim to have it...and the MLs, up to the summits really, don't have it either, for home theater. Even the summits can really use a good sub to add the depth that you need for a cannon shot. Clarities DEFINITELY wouldn't do it. I built my...

In terms of output, 2 grottos should match 1 depth, and I think you can likely get a depth for cheaper than 2 grottos (plus, it'll be easier to adjust the 1 sub downward instead of having to adjust both) But, Cherian is right...with the grottos you have more placement options, better room...

Agreed. Having the sub gives you that option too...with no sub, you don't. So you add that flexibility. Try out a grotto or depth...and cross at 80Hz if you listen at moderate to low volumes, and 100Hz if you listen louder. Dial in the level and the phase, and you should happy, I'd think.

If you do go that route, I'd be interested in hearing your impressions...because I was simply amazed at what I felt was the improvement in the midbass going TO the finals. I'd demo them to make sure you're going to get what you're looking for. In my personal experience, you might look at the...

    Grotto Vs Depth Question

It comes down to the budget issue...Descent = 1.5 depths (approx) = 3 grottos in terms of output. Also, remember that servo bass is not going to sound like your typical HT sub. A lot of the boominess that makes that HT sound won't be there...and you'll have to get used to the cleaner low...

I can help you with the first and last...but you're gonna have to wait a little while on the middle one ;)

    DIY "Line Array Test" Boxes

of the array design? or of the setup? I'm waiting for a snazzy new VTI rack (I know, I know, I need to pick it up)

    Oh lordy...

Yep, I agree. Though I think there might be "some" people who would get a noble + a bentley coupe or something as opposed to a GT3....but now I'm just hypothesizing...since I'm definitely not in the position to make that kind of decision ;)

    Oh lordy...

BTW, I'm not sure if I meant the M400, or M15...I really know very little about them...just read a couple articles as all. It's not my comparison...it was an actual drive comparision that was done that I have a copy of (I'll try to find a link) The guy driving during the test said that, for...

Take a look at the Noble M400...something like half the price (or 2/3) and was put up very favorably against the Carerra GT...

    NC listening get together

From my standpoint, I'm going to be out of town from july 13th (evening) until the following saturday or sunday (21 or 22) but have no other conflicts...and I have my system ready to go...though I don't know how much interest most people will have in my setup (I built 2/3 of the speakers and use...

tweaking the sub in older MLs

straight bi-amping can add that gain too... not to turn you off the DIY route... just an added suggestion :D

    NC listening get together

Just post it in the member's section...and say something like Speakers:[Whatever you have] (Soon to be MLs!) I wonder if my system will get unposted now that it's ML free?! :D
