I haven't heard it but supposedly the 5400ES is a great player and gets a lot of praise on the Audiogon forums. If you purchased new for $807 it was a steal! I see new ones selling on Agon all the time for $1000-$1100.

I think a receiver would get you by in the short term but a separate high current amp will really make them sing; make sure whatever receiver you get has pre amp outputs so you can add an amp down the road or at least have that option. I agree with above post that the JL subs mate well with ML...

First off, welcome to the club Ted! While I haven't heard the Motion series I believe the newer models are more amplifier friendly and you should be OK with the Yamaha to start with. You can always add an amp down the road. Since I'm running a 2.1 system I'm not much help in the ML HT speaker...
