My personal experience with used ML Vantages has been great. I bought them in 2009 from the original owner (who bought them in early 2007). No problems with the internal amps or the ESL panels. I use them daily. Of course, as with buying anything used, YMMV...

I think having more space between the back wall and the couch would be an ideal condition, but isn't a requirement. In my current set-up, my couch is about 2 feet from the back wall, and I'm very please with the sound I'm getting from my Vantages.
