Umm… my Quest Z’s still work when they’re unplugged from A/C?

well, it's a heck of a static charge! it worked for like an hour when over time the mids & treble declined and I noticed the amp was working harder to maintain volume (it has meters). By morning, it didnt work at all.

Umm… my Quest Z’s still work when they’re unplugged from A/C?

Just wondering, how is this possible? As I type, they’re unplugged and still working fine. I broke out the audio test tone recordings and everything. My hearing is not as good as when I was younger, but I can still hear up around 18kHz. No doubt about it, the panels are working, and loud enough...

    Aeon's

My set are a joy - I look forward to powering them up every chance I get! My Aeons do not work well with banana plugs - they can be inserted into the end of the binding posts similarly to much other equipment, but the holes are not deep enough for a banana plug to be inserted completely and...

Martin Logan Aeon "Custom 5 way Binding Posts" - can someone please explain?

Thanks for all your suggestions! It's not so much that I am trying to get this certain cable to work, it's more like "why cant I get it to work?!?!" After very careful inspection again today, I see that bananas do fit (sort of), but the hole is too shallow for the plug to fit completely...

Martin Logan Aeon "Custom 5 way Binding Posts" - can someone please explain?

Yes, just like your picture, except that Aeons have two sets of those per speaker (one for the panel, one for the woofer) It appears to me that many esl martin logans, especially those made around the same time ad mine had binding polsts like that.

Martin Logan Aeon "Custom 5 way Binding Posts" - can someone please explain?

Thanks for the link, similar ones have come in handy for some of my vintage amps with barrier strips! Anyhow i am trying to avoid work-arounds. Have i just misunderstood "5-way" binding post? More to the point, is anyone successfully using banana plugs without issue? I just find it odd that...

Martin Logan Aeon "Custom 5 way Binding Posts" - can someone please explain?

Thanks. ML did respond with "please refer to your owner's manual" type stuff, but no spefic instructions after a couple of email attempts and pictures, so i gave up. Sorry for being inaccurate. As stated though, i cant switch plugs in this case as they are factory terminated (and expensive)...

Martin Logan Aeon "Custom 5 way Binding Posts" - can someone please explain?

Martin Logan Aeon "Custom 5 way Binding Posts" - can someone please explain? Hi Everyone, I have been using "5-way" binding posts since my teenage years (car stereo)...well over 20 years. But I can't figure out the binding posts on my ML Aeons - ML's website, and the user manual states that...

    Its Back!

Perhaps the movie soundtrack contains subsonic information, and the sub is just trying to reproduce the signal it is being fed? In that case, you'd be able to rewind the movie and reproduce the effect. Also you'd see the woofer move (a lot) while the noise happens, but you'd hear little or no...

    Monolith Panel Issue? Advice needed

good thinking....why not swap the electronics from right to left and see if the problem follows?

Crazy idea from a CHEAPSKATE (Me) - Low powered tube amp?

I admire your convictions! FYI, I do understand the explanation and I appreciate your time for putting it in words

Crazy idea from a CHEAPSKATE (Me) - Low powered tube amp?

WOW, thanks for taking the time to highlight the electronics details! But I still think those points are being placed in a vacuum here (pun intended:). perhaps these points might be more relevant if we were driving the stat directly off the tubes with no transformers at all? But with the output...

Crazy idea from a CHEAPSKATE (Me) - Low powered tube amp?

Thanks Gordon, I think I'll stay on course for a good entry integrated tube amp. Though your CJ looks like a notch or two nicer than my B&K, I think my amp is the weak point at the moment (equipment-wise). Thanks though - she's a beauty!

    Summit X, high-pitched sound

This summer i had 1 panel with close to zero output and the other outputting only lower mids but very quiet - it was during a heat wave with high humidity. I suspected dust / humidity so I unplugged overnight, set up a dehumidifier and air filter, then vacuumed and low pressure air blasted it...

    Placement queries

Great question, my instincts say that if anything, glass would be more problematic but I have no evidence for that. I know I prefer to not have speakers near a window because they tend to echo mids and highs and rattle from the bass. After i noticed the sound improvement with my new TV, I...

    Placement queries

I'm less experienced than many others here, but I can tell you that when I started I had a huge 65" rear projection tv between the speakers, and it was only after I upgraded to a flat screen did I realize what I was missing. I had excellent sound, but poor imaging...almost no imaging actually -...

    Monolith Panel Issue? Advice needed

+1 Would be a shame to drop the money only to find out they're still something wrong....plus washing them might just do the trick. My ML's literally stopped working this summer during a heat wave, turns out they were dirty and the humidity got em. Well, one panel had only lower mid frequencies...

    Monolith Panel Issue? Advice needed

Hello, and welcome! I didn't see you list your amplification? Can I assume you did the cable swap dance (switching inputs and outputs to see if the trouble follows the speaker, the output channel of the preamp, or amp, etc? I am not an expert in electrostatic speaker technology, but I dont see...

Crazy idea from a CHEAPSKATE (Me) - Low powered tube amp?

Yes, that is a strong possibility, do you have any good value for the money recommendations? I have a pretty decent B&K solid state preamp - that's why it isnt higher on my list of things to upgrade. But since this insane hobby is all about experimenting, the only part I dont see myself...

Crazy idea from a CHEAPSKATE (Me) - Low powered tube amp?

Thanks Gordon! Well to tell you the truth, trying different combinations is almost as much fun as having good results...so my odds are good!
