    A new age of fear

Scare mongering by a certain party. In Colorado Democrat senator Mark Udall has made his campaign largely based on a trumped up scare mongering "War on Women". So much so that he is being called "Mark Uterus". Judging by the polls it looks like Udall is going down. Gary

    A new age of fear

Scare mongering by a certain party. In North Carolina the Dems ran an ad with a picture of two African American youngsters holding signs that said "Don't Shoot". The caption said something like "If you don't want Ferguson in NC vote Democrat. Gary

    A new age of fear

Ah yes the scare mongering Republicans on Ebola. While nurses following CDC protocol were infected and then accused by the dems of "Breaking protocol". As a nuclear chemist who has worn full protective gear I was truly appalled when I saw the CDC's protective dress instructions. Then the head of...

OK! Esoteric K1 is the winner. ==• now we need to move to the speaker!!!!!}{[]>

That was my first thought. It looked to me like the post was yesterday. The location is US. If it's real I agree with Kedar try to see them. Gary

OK! Esoteric K1 is the winner. ==• now we need to move to the speaker!!!!!}{[]>

That reminds of the hit song from 1966 and it went something like this "Did you ever have to make up your mind. Pick up on one and leave the other behind". Your dilemma is not new. What I suggest is that you up your value on "value". By this I mean look at the $$$ side and give it a higher...

OK! Esoteric K1 is the winner. ==• now we need to move to the speaker!!!!!}{[]>

I think you've got it. For the past several decades I have been attending CES (have not missed a show since 2001). Every time I'm walking the halls I make a point of saying "So many great sounding systems and so few rooms to put them in". I have noticed that the SQ of the high end speakers...

Preamp done, Amp done... Source/DAC next. Esoteric??

Confused certainly. Dyslexic perhaps. Sorry for error and good job Tim (MiTT).

Preamp done, Amp done... Source/DAC next. Esoteric??

First of all Timm thank you for your wonderful thread from RMAF. I know how much work that was because I attend CES every year and at the end of each day I am exhausted. And I am not writing a report. Good Job. Did I read this correctly, you like the Sonus Faber Stratavari ($40,000) and...

Accidentally hit my Theos w/ amp cranked ALL THE WAY UP! Damage?

So far everyone has given you good advice. However, it is possible to damage the speaker and the distortion you hear later is less than completely obvious. The MLs have protective circuitry. On the Prodigy and CLX this circuitry is on a board called the DEC. Essentially this is what Tosh was...

The Unmoderated Classical Music Recommended Recordings Thread

In 1967 I stopped by the local record store in Seaside, Oregon and purchased my first album. It was the 1958 recording by van Cliburn of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto #1 (RCA). It had been the number one selling classical album for 9 years and would continue to be number one for another year. I...

The Unmoderated Classical Music Recommended Recordings Thread

Kedar, Looks like a good thread to revive. This cd looked good so I ordered it from Amazon and should receive it in about a week. Maybe we can keep this thread going a while. Gary

    CLX musings..

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=gallery;image=54074 The above picture was take in 2011 and I have certainly made some changes since, however the concept is the same. I am 5.5 feet off the wall and toed modestly in. Gary

    CLX musings..

I have CLX's well set up in a large room. I attend CES every year (have not missed a show in 12 years). Each day before attending the show I spend a minimum of 30 minutes listening to and setting my ears to my system. I do the same when I return home. Three years ago IIRC when the Magico Q5 was...

Preamp done, Amp done... Source/DAC next. Esoteric??

About a year ago a friend came over to take me to lunch. I told him he needed to listen to something first. I put on a Liszt piece and said nothing for the 10 minute run. My CLX's are in a room that is 17'Wx43'Dx12'H and I keep them 5' off the wall. When we got to the restaurant there was a...

Preamp done, Amp done... Source/DAC next. Esoteric??

I do have a number of them and the quality is excellent. So while I'm in the test music for auditioning equipment mode let me recommend the xrcd "Best Audiophile Voices". This is a 15 song collection of various female vocalists and they are all exquisite. Gary

Preamp done, Amp done... Source/DAC next. Esoteric??

Bernard, great point. Joey seems to be a sophisticated buyer so I assumed he was doing this but for completeness of the thread this is a valuable point. I use piano solo's from Liszt, Chopin, Debussy. Don't like classical? learn to like at least one test piece. In well recorded classical piano...

    Ethos vs Montis

I second Dave's recommendation of the Ethos. It will cost you nearly 50% more to get the Montis over the Ethos. Since you will be using a DD10 sub the lack of bass on the Ethos will be covered. Not to be too analytical your panel on the Ethos has 82% of the Montis surface area. The 90% usage for...

    New Neolith stuff

I dropped by the Martin Logan "Truth in Sound" tour in Burbank, CA today and asked a couple of questions about the Neolith. They said ML will have a live wired pair at CES to demo. Unfortunately the room size will be no larger and even possibly smaller than it has been in the past. I was hoping...

    Newbie - Motion 8 or Motion 30

Congrats on your new system. It should bring you a lot of joy. Your audiophile friend is correct in that the Motion 30 would have brought better balance on the front end. How will you be using your system? Mostly for movies? For 2 channel music and some movies? For 5.1 music such as SACD and...

Preamp done, Amp done... Source/DAC next. Esoteric??

On the Wilsons vs. CLX's fact, yes. I have the Sasha 1's and they are -3dB at 20 Hz. I have CLX's and they are -3dB at 56 Hz. So it's a fact. On the B&W's, this is your opinion. I like the B&W's nice sound. Warm and no fatigue. Just my opinion. Gary
