I have heard a cheaper Chord combination on MartinLogan speakers. I can only extrapolate how the moest expensive stuff would sound. I have heard clear improvements though going up in the range of this brand.

I do believe in them, as I have experienced improvements in a show situation, where they removed them from the room whilst listening and the sound got worse immediately. Ever tried the Harmonix tuning devices?

Distance from the front of the panel... I think Aeons and Clarity have their pros and cons. The Clarity is more 'airy', the Aeon has better low mids.
