BACCH4mac, you really should try it

Sounds like this is a viable option to improve sound in a poorly-designed or non-treated room. I expect it wouldn’t be as big an improvement in a well-designed, acoustically-treated room. Interesting technology, regardless.

BACCH4mac, you really should try it

The Janszen speakers are excellent and have pretty good dispersion. I did an audition at David Janszen’s factory and never had the “head in a vice” feel that I got from Roger Sander’s speakers. I seriously doubt technology like this is necessary to enjoy a pair of Janszen speakers. Or ML’s, for...

Impression of my new Power Sound Audio S2112M subwoofer

The IPal gives you more headroom. It’s got twice the wattage of the standard sub, and a woofer that’s designed to handle every bit of that 4000 watts. Double the amp power basically gives you 3 dB more headroom over the standard sub. In large rooms like yours, that can be very useful.

Crap. And I need a new set of tubes for my Ref 3 Preamp.

And you would be wrong. Tom has a stellar reputation for customer service and doing whatever it takes to make things right when things go wrong. The only difference is, PSA offers that peace of mind for two years beyond what ML offers. Not to mention PSA subs cost about half as much as ML subs...

Impression of my new Power Sound Audio S2112M subwoofer

Excellent review, Robert! And as I expected. Can’t wait to get my four TV21 iPals set up! Regardless of the sub and given proper setup and calibration, two will generally sound better than one, and four will generally sound better than two, and across a larger area as well. It’s just the...

Well, my BF 210 has a big problem and I purchased it new in July 2021. Here is what it is doing.

No review yet on the PSA sub? I’m anxious to hear your thoughts!

I’ll be interested to hear which one you go with and why. I’ve got a JBL SDP-75-24 (which is just a re-badged Trinnov) for the home theater I’m constructing. I went with the JBL version because it has the anechoic data files for the JBL speakers I’ll be using in the theater. You should...

With that number of subs, you should seriously consider a double bass array with a Trinnov Altitude processor for your home theater. Do some research on Trinnov’s upcoming bass management algorithm which will be (at least initially) designed to work with double bass array setups. Could result in...

Congrats, TiBoneFramer! Yours, when completed, may be the only “serious” theater I’ve ever heard of that uses ML subwoofers. 😂 At the same time, it seems a bit of overkill unless you are doing a double bass array type of setup, no? You could easily get as good sound with much fewer subwoofers...

I’m not trying to pick a fight, I promise. But I do enjoy a good debate. I really was curious though, given the discrepancy in pricing in the states. It honestly didn’t occur to me that you were in Canada. Makes sense now. And I’m not trashing ML subs at all. I think they’re great subs. I’m...

Well, my BF 210 has a big problem and I purchased it new in July 2021. Here is what it is doing.

How is this, exactly? The BF-212 retails for $4500. The SVS SB16-Ultra retails for $2300. You could get two of the SVS subs for just slightly more than one BF-212. If there is so little content below 20 Hz, why do you have Crowsons? What signal do you think they’re amplifying? But I do...

I agree with you, Big Dog RJ. For music alone, there is rarely need for a sub that goes below 20 Hz. And the ML subs are fine for that, even if overpriced in my personal opinion. But don’t forget that Robert is wanting a sub not just for music but also for home theater, and that’s a different...

Exactly! Which is why I got a chuckle out of TiBoneFramer’s comment above about needing to pay more for “audiophile grade” subs. Talk about falling for marketing hype! Subs are all about the performance characteristics of the driver, amp, and cabinet and the expertise of the designer in...

Well, my BF 210 has a big problem and I purchased it new in July 2021. Here is what it is doing.

Let’s talk facts… The BF212 costs $4,500 and has two 12” drivers powered by 1700 watts (3,400 peak) and puts out 18-120 kHz. The PSA S2112m costs $2,200 and has one 21” driver powered by 1920 watts (4,300 peak) and puts out 11-200 Hz., with in-room extension into the single digits. You could get...

You need to step out of your bubble. ML is a speaker company that happens to make some decent, but overpriced subs. They are far from the end-all be-all. There are more than a few companies that specialize in subs that trump ML in that category on both sound and service, but most especially on...

Don’t I know it! I’m at the 11 month mark on mine. Framing is done. Mechanicals are almost done. Roof is almost finished and EIFS stucco is well on its way. We are getting ready for insulation and drywall. I don’t expect to be finished until the end of this year at the earliest. More likely...

Yes, the big opening to larger spaces greatly increases the cubic footage that your subs are trying to pressurize. I suppose it might actually help reduce your room modes though.

Well, my BF 210 has a big problem and I purchased it new in July 2021. Here is what it is doing.

In-room extension takes into account the effects of room gain. The standard sub frequency response is measured as if you had the sub outside, with no room boundary interaction. But when you put the sub in a room, the walls of the room act to boost certain frequencies and can result in lower...
