I bought my first set of ML's today. I chose the Vantage.

My amp is a McIntosh MC352. It has taps for 8, 4 and 2 ohms. Which would you suggest for a starting point?

I'm thinking the 4, but since I thought I read they went down to .07 or .7 (forgot where) the 2 might be better.

I've never really played around with this before since my last set are 8 so I just plugged them up there.

Thanks, Gordon

I agree, start with the 4 ohm tap, that is the nominal figure. I believe Tonepub had some amps he was auditioning that two ohm taps and when he tried them he preferred them.
Shoot him a "PM" to inquire.

When I was auditioning the 275, I got the best results using the 4. However, I would play around with it.

Good Luck!

I was told at the dealer I bought my amp from to use the 4 ohm tap for the McIntosh MC252 amp with Martin Logan Vantage speakers. I would call your McIntosh dealer to be sure.

ps McIntosh amps sound great with ML Vantage speakers.

What you are trying to do is to maximize the power delivery to the speaker. The lowest impedance (1 ohm) of the speaker is in the alpine regions of the FR and is not really a concern as there is very little musical energy up there in most music. Start out with the 4 ohms tap as that is the nominal impedance of the Vantage and check it out from there. The two ohm or eight ohm tap will limit the power delivery and change the distortion spectrum though this may be subjectively better.
