Make sure you request a home trial so you can return them if you do not like them, and get a full refund. Get it in writing.

$120/foot??? Are you kidding??? I can think of a lot of components and acoustic treatments I would spend $1200 on before I would spend it on speaker cables. Especially cables I knew nothing about. But then I have never believed in the hype of high priced cables.

There are certainly differences between cables but you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to get cables that sound good and synergize with your system. I would definitely insist on a trial period with money-back-if-not-satisfied guarantee. Then try to do a blind A/B test with a couple of other much less expensive cables and see if they are really worth that kind of money to you.

I looked at Verastarr's website and noticed they publish lots of marketing hype (customer testimonials) but no specs. If I were considering purchasing cables such as these, I would want to know what they measured in inductance, capacitance and resistance. Particularly inductance and capacitance need to be low for best performance with an ESL speaker design. It does appear from their website that they offer a 15-day trial 100% satisfaction guarantee.

For a great-sounding cable at less than a third of this price, I recommend these:

Signal Cable Silver Resolution Reference Speaker Cables

Fatwyre

If you want to audition a wide array of cables in any price range, call FATWYRE (800.328.9973). They have an extensive "lending" library to choose from.

thanks for all the help.

what caught my eye for this speaker cable is the reviews and its lifetime warrenty.

ill give that company a call for testing.

i called my hi fi store and they say it comes with a paper saying when it was made and by who.

its my first time buying cables that cost that much. speaker cables prb make up almost 20% cost of my whole system.

right now im using monster cables which is so so.

This is a joke ....right ????

Lifetime warranty caught your eye ????

A $6000 system with $1200 spent on speaker cables ???

Ok, hkd, stay calm, we have a doctor in the house......our resident 'Shrink', "TonyC", I'm sure he can help you out !! LOL !!

HKD, don't believe the reviews and don't worry about a lifetime warranty. How often have you heard of a speaker cable breaking? Ultimately, it is just a piece of wire. Does it really need a lifetime warranty? And just about all expensive cables have great reviews, because reviewers never seem to write bad reviews about cables.

All that matters is whether it improves the sound of your system, and whether or not a less expensive cable can improve the sound of your system just as much, if not more. And this has less to do with the actual "build quality" of the cable and more to do with its electrical properties and how it synergizes with your system components. That is why the cable company (fatwyre) is great. Because they let you audition different brands and you can decide which one works best in your system.

ill be going out to my local hi fi store to test a few speaker wires out before i decide anything.

what do you guys think is a good amount to spend on cables?

It's difficult to nail down a hard number for your question. When you consider the many different types of cables (materials, gage, end terminations, etc) you have lots of options.

Since you are just now graduating from monster cable to something better, I'd take a shot at some used cables (audiogon, fatwyre, etc). Check out some of the member systems to get a handle on the brands we like to use. A short list: Cardas, Kimber, Zu, Signal Cable, etc.

There is absolutely NO reason to drop over $1000 on speaker cables. Your system isn't being held back by your cables. Cables are there for some fine tuning-that's it. If I had a four figure sum to spend on cables, I'd upgrade the amp(s), source, or maybe add room treatments first.

Get a hold of several different types and pick the one sounds the best when auditioned using a variety of source material. Pay attention to the vocals, placement of instruments, and so on. There is no silver bullet here.

I see a few problems with this plan:

1. Cables will sound differently on different systems. What sounds great on the dealer's system may not sound so great on your system.

2. Selection. You will be limited by the brands which this particular store carries.

3. By testing them at the dealers, you will be influenced by the salesman's opinion. And they will try to influence you to a more expensive cable. That is their job.

How much to spend is very subjective and everyone will have a different opinion. Personally, I can't see spending more than a few hundred dollars on a set of speaker cables. Beyond that, I think you are paying for marketing hype rather than better quality or performance. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck with it.

picked up a pair of zu and verastarr today. my friend was happy enough to lend it to me till next week.

he said he has older pair of vanstarr silver 4ft and is willing to let it go for $400.

is that a good deal? any differnece between the new and old? he said he has box and authintic papers.

i was also going to test out merlin cables sooner this week.

i guess 4ft should be enoguh since its gonna be sitting in a small room along with my other lcd and thx speakers.

I just wanted to say that I got a chance to listen to the entry level Verestar Spkr. Cbls. I must say they were simply Phenomenal !!! Very open and airy, had PRAT in spades!! The bass was very tight, but colorful!! The only downside, is that they are quite pricey!

4' speaker cable? What are you listening on- a mini system? Tell us more about the rest of your system so we can understand your situation better. I personally think it seems your current system does not need $100 + / foot speaker cable at this point...
