I wash in the DC area on business earlier this week and decided to drop in the nearby Sound Advice store to hear the new Depth i. I plan to add on to my HT system in the near future since I've been doing without a sub for way too long.

I met a salesman in there and I won't name Tyrone's name but I will tell you he was very knowledgeable on high-end audio gear and proper setup. He also knew the ML line very well and has owned various ML speakers for years. We had an interesting conversation and I think we talked audiophile stuff for about an hour. He reads this forum on a regular basis but rarely posts.

I hear comments on occasion about salesmen in these stores that don't know much more than Bose and receivers. However, I have had pretty good luck with knowledgeable salesmen in most of the Sound Advice stores I've dealt with in the Tampa Bay area.

Of course there are some that don't have much of a clue but that's not always the case. In fact it was 2 salesmen that I used to consult with early on who showed me what ML speakers were capable of. I blame them for getting me infected with Joeyitis. They were were always proud to mention they were sent to Kansas for the Martin Logan factory tour. I hope ML reenergizes the tour program for salesman. I saw that it made a difference whenever I had a ML related question.

Tweeter has been under some hard financial times lately but they should be able to recover from it going into '08. The most dissapointing change about Tweeter over the past couple of years is that they got rid of nearly all of thier High-End products. I think the traffic in the store dropped along with absent high-end gear.

Anyway, it was refreshing to run into a fellow audiophile salesman in a Tweeter store.

You were in DC and didn't tell me ?!

Just kidding...

My first experiences with high end audio/video was through a Sound Advice in Naples, FL. I can tell you that before Tweeter took them over, Sound Advice only employed full-time sales people. Also, they would routinely send their staff away to big trade shows. These guys, back then, certainly knew their stuff.

It's a different story now with the emphasis on home theater and flat screen TVs...
