Since many think room interaction are paramount I decided to order this and check things out.
I still stand behind my belief that the primary components are most important. I also believe speakers should be placed 1/3 of the way into the room and as far away form side walls as possible. (dipoles anyway). This is not always practical for those who have to share their multimedia room with other humans.
I'll post some results once it arrives and my CLS's are back in commission. (transformers have made their second trip to Kansas)

The PAA2 is a highly accurate handheld audio analyzer that gives professional sound engineers a rich array of tools, including 31-band real time spectrum analysis, SPL and Line meter, internal noise generator, EQ setting program, microphone calibration and the ability to check speaker phase. All functions and menus can be accessed through a central jog dial, meaning you only need one hand to operate it. The New PAA2 connects instantly to any desktop or laptop computer for easy upload and download of information and settings. This audio assistant comes loaded with handy features like a real-time spectrum analyzer, phase test, cable test, a noise generator, a jog dial, and visible backlight to help you see your progress in dark environments. The PAA2 is a must-have tool for every serious sound engineer.

It's here!

Arrived today. Nice little handheld device. Maybe I'll take it to Overture on Saturday. I don't know what the learning curve is. Since mys system is in transition I'll have plenty of time to learn how to use it.

Hi Greg,

Please share your experience once you got a handle of its capabilities.

What's that puppy cost?

Please post an FR plot and waterfalls once you've figured out how to use it.:music:

I recently bought the XTZ Room Analyzer (www.xtz.se), which is an all-in-one-box room/speaker frequency response analyzer, with Windows software. I've finally started to get the hang of it, and it's been instrumental (pardon the pun) in helping me dial in my Summits and acoustic wall treatments. I'll post some graphs this weekend.

Just curious what made you purchase this? Was it the built in microphone, built in display (only 160 x 160), built in sound generator, SPL meter plus spectrum display...etc. I see prices around $250 for it -

Did you consider using Room EQ Wizard (Free), or ETF 5 (limited use unless you pay for it) with a decent microphone (under $100)?

As we all know the Rad Shack is only good for the low end and other microphones are needed for full spectrum reporting.

It does not appear the PAA2 does waterfall plots to show room ringing and decay. Maybe I missed something...

Hopefully it works out for you as expected.

I asked you not to tell me

" I see prices around $250 for it"
I just liked it.

Somewhat tongue in cheek. I suspect.

"For analyzing something, liking it is the best reason in the world......" DTB300"

You did right to point out cheaper prices and the lack of features others might require. Others may be thinking about buying it and deserve to be aware of all the options available to them.
That's what makes this site so great. The free if sometimes contentious exchange of ideas. Its right for me. If you google "spectrum analyzer" all kinds of goodies pop up. Also if you google this particular spectrum analyzer you'll find many purchase options.

This is just one option. It does what I need. IMO a very good one. Its wide spread availability suggests others agree.

"Enjoy the new toy!! "

Also there is a PAA3. http://www.promusicexchange.com/ser...honic,Analizer,Analyser,Sound-engineer/Detail

Thanks. It really is fun. Much better than trying to do things by ear.
