Hey all you dog and cat lovers on the forum....

Here's something that I didn't think would work in a million years, but it has been fantastic.

My older dog Harry (not the one in my avatar) has had this ongoing eye infection for about four years now. The vet charges me 250 bucks, gives his some antibiotics and eye drops and three weeks after the meds completely wear off, he's back to being miserable again.

We had just about given up hope for him, when a breeder friend of mine sent me a link to NuVet. It's a vitamin/mineral/antioxidant supplement that claims to clear a lot of this stuff up and I cross referenced a few other Kerry Blue breeders that swear by it.

I figured $55 for a three month bottle couldn't be any worse than the vet, so I ordered a bottle and gave it a try.

It's been a little over two weeks now (they said it would probably take 4-6 weeks) and his eye infection is almost completely gone and this 13 year old terrier is bouncing around the house again like he did when he was a 5 year old.

Their products are supposed to work equally well on dogs or cats.

So, if you've got a pet that's a little down, this might be a very cost effective and ultimately more healthy solution than getting drugs from the vet:

Thanks! Interesting.

Our Charlie had itching issues a while back - We also found something similar for skin issues - it's called "Megaderm" and is essentially an Omega-3 supplement. Has worked wonders - better than any topical cream/lotion!

I don't know how the vets are in Australia, but here whenever I've taken the boys in for a regular shot, they always have this list of about 1200 dollars worth of procedures they want to perform.

I always decline and they give me the evil eye, like I don't care about my pets, which couldn't be further from the truth. They are well fed and hang out with us all day long, so they've got a pretty comfy life!

And they even have CLX's to listen to in the office and purity's in the house. How much better can it get for a dog!

My Charles loves listening time! And he shows his disdain in no uncertain terms if I dare put an MP3 file on (not that I have too many - but yes, he really does walk out!)

The vets here are pretty good compared to your account - never had anything like that. I guess it depends on who you go to though.

In fact, the only time we've needed some pretty serious vet service (when Charlie was playing and didn't see a tripod sprinkler, mowed it down and got one of the stakes impaled through his stomach) our vet said words to the effect of "We will try this first - let's try that and see how it goes - we can always go to this if necessary"........I was most impressed......I said "as long as it's not risking anything, go for it".

I will look into them. Both my dogs are in good shape for being 11 and 12 and being BIG dogs. But age the unforgiving predator is catching up.
