So what did I just read... hehe  So I shouldnt place my two subs on the same wall? This is important since I am still working on my setup... almost done!

Read LG's review(Stereophile, September 2007. pp. 121-128. Vol. 30 No. 9) of the Fathom f113 subwoofer for a good description of a stereo bass set-up, methodology and benefits.

Very interesting stuff.

I’ve read earlier iterations of the paper.

Based on the tunings I’ve been doing this past week, I’d note the following caveats:

Time delays between the various subs is a consideration. Just balancing the delays between the 7 speakers and the 1 sub I have has been a struggle. I had to create a spreadsheet to calculate the delays, polarity and phase of each crossover element and the sub. Luckily, I can control each speaker/sub element independently, and boy is this tricky. Not only is the sequence of dependent elements complex, so is the interactions with the various sources/processors.

Personally, I think the one sub center/front + one Sub/center Rear is the easiest and most effective to do. I will be trying that in the near future, As I still have a Velodyne ULD-18 I can deploy to additional sub duties for this.

Again, small variations in delay, phase and of course polarity have major influences on the resulting response.

Trying to do a 4 or more sub setup without DriveRacks (or similar granular control) would be madness or futile IMHO. Oh, and not having a measurement rig, same deal.

After much work, I finally have cohesive bass and imaging again this week. The treatments of the room made a huge positive effect, but required total retuning of EQ, phase, and delay. Some of it due to absence of resonances, some of it due to slight repositioning of speakers, and correcting minute issues I’d ignored previously. But boy, the results are phenomenal.

Quite interesting paper:cool:

I already suspected the 4-sub configuration, one on each corner. This is from empirical evidence though, it's nice to see some deeper justification and an evaluation of several alternatives as well.

After all this is HiFi, where people talk seriously about the body and 'presence' enhancements from using different oversized speaker cables - so I welcome anything reasonable and measurable:rocker:

Thanks for the link:)
