Can someone please tell me how to take the side rails off? I have done this about 10 years ago and for some reason, I am having a difficult time.

Thanks!

Dan

use a hammer and lay the speaker on its side and strike the bottom of the rail upwards. It may take a good walllop !

I have them on their back and knocking them..the rails move about 1/4 inch and stop(both speakers). I had to change out the panel on one of them 10 years ago cause of damage during shipment but I don't remember them being this difficult. I'm using the panel wash tutorial which shows the rails moving much farther back, but those are Quests not reQuests.

I don't know. I'll go try it again.

I wrote Jim Powers to ask why I can't remove the rails and he wrote:

Certainly. It will depend on the vintage of your speakers. If you send me your SN#s, I can confirm which direction to go. However the basic principle is to unlock the Key-hole fasteners as shown on the attached. It just depends on the direction of the keyholes.

Earlier units unlocked by tapping on the Bottom of the trim. Later unit were exactly opposite.

All I need is the letters of your SN# and I can interpret when they were built.

All the best,

jp

So, I sent him my SN#'s and he wrote back:

Thanks,

These speakers were built in January of 1998. They were the 32nd and 33rd ReQuest built that month.

To unlock the trims, you will tap them on the TOP Downwards.

The installation is the reverse.

Hope this helps.

Just thought everyone would like to know that hitting them from the bottom up is NOT the status quo.

I removed the rails and gave them a shower over the weekend. I'm giving them another day before I plug them in...hope I hear a distinct difference after removing 10 years of dust and dirt.;)

Great to know ReQuests are from the top down. I am sorry for the wrong information. The Quests are bottom up. !

Hope the shower cleaning works. !
