Have tried a new Alison Krauss SACD " Forget About It" this weekend and my player after trying to read it would only say "no read". I removed, wiped and reinstalled it a few times and gave up.

Have any of you had problems? Does this sometimes happen with some discs but another of the same disc doesn't?

The company said they would replace it but I'm not sure the 2nd will be any different.

Any idea what causes a non-read.

It can happen !

Hi Brad255,

I have experienced the same situation with only one of my SACDs (Jennifer Warnes "The Well"), and that with only one player, an Integra DPS-8.3. That particular player was unable to read properly the SACD layer of that Hybrid disc.

The same disc is played without any problem on 3 other players :
- Linn Unidisk SC
- Sony SCD-XE670
- ModWright/Sony 999ES

Sorry, I have no idea of what causes this non-read problem !

Brad,

Try it in another player. If it is a hybrid then put it in your car, I assume you have a CD in your car, and see if it plays.

What is happening is for some reason it is not tracking/reading correctly from the lens's standpoint. If it plays in another player and if your player can switch between SACD multi-channel to 2-channel, try that and see if that works. The two channel layer on a hybrid SACD is typically lower/deeper on the CD. Ifthat is the case and it does play, I would think the CD may be bad but it is conjecture and the only way to tell is to get another one for sure.

Good Luck

I've had the problem on 2 disc's - Julia Fordham "Concrete Love" and the Jacnitha "Bossa Nova" disc. "Concrete Love" would crap out about halfway through the album and "Bossa Nova" won't read at all on my Sony SA-9000ES, but both play just fine on my Esoteric DV-50S.

Go figure?

Not that I have too many SACDs, but I seem to have this issue with my multiplayer. It tends to pick up the standard cd layer first. After re-inserting the disk a couple of times, my player finds the SACD layer. It's kind of a pain.

It's seems to be more of an issue with multilayer discs.

However, as a data point, my Denon DVD2900 has never missed a beat on over 30 SACD's, including several multilayers.

Same here my Denon DVD3910 has played everything thats been thrown its way.

I received the replacement Alison Krauss SACD " Forget About It" and it played fine. Very nice music. I would recommend it to anyone that likes her.
