Hello, everyone. I have recently received a pair of Sequel II speakers, that are in need of some work. The panels click a bit at turn on, and one of them has the panel slippage problem that is common to these speakers. The cabinets are need of refinishing, and the power supplies for the panels are allowing hum to come through when the speakers are not being played. I haven't negotiated a price, etc. for these yet, but they play fine aside from the problems mentioned.

I have no problem working on the electronics myself, as my day job is building high power tube amplification. I have a 70 watt triode amplifier that I am hoping to finish up in the next week or so to drive these, and my Apogee Divas. The boss tells me the Sequels are DEFINITELY not tube friendly, and suggests I send them elsewhere. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

I think with your knowledge and experience that rebuilding the Sequel's would be a wise investment.

Tend to agree with your boss on the amplification. I think you will find 70 watts per channel as close to low as you can go. I ran ReQuests full range with a cj premier 11a. The bass improved dramatically when I bi-amped with solid state on the bass and it also improved the dynamics on the panels. I love tubes on ml panels and they seem more "alive" to me. If you acquire a solid state for the bass and bi-amp or build yourself a more powerful tube amp, then I think your most of the way there.

Have fun.:music:
