Hello everybody on this forum ,
I was looking in any forum if someone advice my amps for the cls2s but never find anything .
Is anyone of you able to tell me if my nagra vpa are able to make the cls2s souding great .
Thank you very much in advance , for your advices ,
Arn .

I use a Bryston 14BSST most of the time and it's really a smooth / refined amp...if you want more of a tubey sound try to find a Sunfire Signature...they sound great and will run anything.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it "Tubey", but I wholeheartedly agree...

It's a sweet amp on Electrostatics **and** it's so stable it runs cold while producing 4000watt peaks at 1 ohm.

That's what I call dynamic range!! :rocker:

Cheers,
Ray

Everyone knows I love tubes and stats. But not all tube amps are "stat-friendly" The Nagra is one, as raygunn said. If you go to the Recommended Equipment forum (bottom of the home page) you can read my review of my new McIntosh MC275 which at 95w/ch is more than adequate to drive my CLSIIz's:clap:

Sunfire

I agree with Ray.. Can't go wrong with Sunfire and ML. The amp is soft and is a great match.

On that note, I have a question for Ray. I have the entry level Sunfire Theatre Grand 5 channel. I notice you have the Sunfire Signature II Architect Series. I'm curious if I would notice a difference if I upgrade to a higher end Sunfire.

thx
Chris

Well here's a 'lil story....

If the power is there and at a cost of a small fraction of so-called "high-end" amps, then why not go for the gusto!

I must say that it was kind of wickedly gratifying when a friend brought over his BAT "super amp" with the BATPAK (or whatever it was called). He was on a mission to prove that my lowly Carver Silver 9t monoblocks (rated 2400watts each into 1 ohm) were holding my system back. Even though they were monoblocks that were practically "docked" to my Sequel 2's (at the time) and connected via Cardas Golden Cross 8" jumpers.

We listened to really dynamic stuff like Gentle Giant "In a Glass House", Sheffield's "James Newton Howard and Friends" and also some acoustic stuff like Rickie Lee Jones first LP and Steve Howe's "Not Necessarily Acoustic".

After hearing a few select cuts through my Carvers, we switched to his (already warmed up) BAT. I sat and watched as my friend's face contorted each time there were peaks in the music. The BAT's soundstage caved in and it started to sound downright nasty. The look of sheer defeat to the likes of a "lowly" Carver amp was priceless. The BAt was burning hot and the Carvers ran ice cold.

Later, he told me that he related the whole experience to the guys at BAT and they blamed it on my Audible Illusions Modulus 3a preamp. Um, what's wrong with that picture? LOL.

A year after that, he sold me his Quest Z's for $800, WOOHOO!

Cheers,
Ray

Good story! I enjoyed that. Always like to see the underdog win one!
