Merry xmas to you all

A bit sad posting on xmas day isn t it, but m at work, on call and it s dead quiet so thought i post a quick question.
How to interprete the ML voyages specs.I read that the voyages have a frequency response of 40hz to 20Khz give or take -+ 3dB.
I have in my theartr room focal speakers 826v which are rated at 45hz to 28khz and m pretty happy in the amount of bass coming out.Indeed i have then fairly close to the wall.So i am wondering if it s possible that the voyages will give me more bass than the focal given that their specs seem a tad lower?Am i correct to assume so, or is it more dependent on types of custom installation, wall cavity, padding....
I find it hard to beleive that a inwall speaker will add more bass than a large floorstanders.\
Can anybody advise me if m totally wrong in assume so and may be reading specs the wrong way.
If i do go for the voyages,,(in my family room where it s purely for 2ch music)i assumed i would have to add a sub but if they give me more bass than the focal i may just get away with out a sub. What are your thoughts.
I wish i could get the ehtos or theos, but afraid i can t stick them far enough in the room to enjoy benefit of those lovely speakers ( can only have the panels about 60cm or 23' from wall), so my only alternative would be the voyages plus a sub but if i don t need one even better.
sincerely yours
john

Hola John. Well, the quantity of bass is different than the quality of the bass. On the specs, the focal are telling you that the frequency response goes from 45Hz to 28KHz, but here you do not state +- dBs they have. On the other side, Martin Logan is stating the the frequency variation typical for the Voyages is +- 3dB cover from 40Hz and up. You could have a bump in your focal at low frequency, making this, that you might think they have better bass... focal is a very good brand, but the Voyage are a different aproach. They use for tweeters an Advance Thin Film, that truly makes them a winner with their sound quality. It is very difficult to buy speakers based only on specs. But I assure you that you will be very happy their coherence and very dynamic sound over all. I like them very much. Hope this might help. Happy listening!

re ML voyages

Hi Roberto and thanks for your input.
I trully hope that the ML voyages will be quite different to the focals.Since i auditioned the Vantage it s stuck in my head and did not want to audition anything else as was convinced that i had fouind the soud i was looking for.Unfortunately due to the new house design i am unable to fit them in the family room.Although it s a fairly large room 6.3m long by 5 wide , it s a little tricky as it s suncken which means that tere are set of steps on either side of the 5m wall which only makes it now3m wide.Even if i only one set of steps at one side the wall will be 4m, but i have a 70inch tv which will go in the middle and thus it does not leave heaps of room to fit the ethos.
I know that the voyage will not be the same as the ethos but hopefully bring me awefully close to them.
I will also need either a sub or a pair of subs. However, i would prefer in wall subs or at least subs that can be concealed in a cabinet(where the fron t face can be flush with wall).Do you know of any great sub( used only for music no LFE function) that will fit that criteria and blend with the ML voyages.
thanks again\

If you can squeeze room for a Grotto i sub, you will be amazed with the quality of bass, specially with music. It is servo control. I know that out there are great subs too, but I am married with ML sound since long time ago. I really like what the company is doing for our beloved hobby: listening to great musicians making music for us, there... in our own room!. I do not listen to bass or mids or highs, I listen a piano, a guitar, a trumpet, an organ, a sax, a drums, strings, winds, percussion, etc., and the musician(s) that play those fine instruments. I like classical and jazz. Vocals are super detail, and the air between instruments... the sound is very life like. You can listen the sound of them playing for you. You start to call their names at the recordings, without knowing that they were playing at those songs. Yes, I know, I am crazy. But a good crazy. I do not do any harm listening my system and sometimes at week ends I can listen over 12 hours of listening pleasure. No ear fatigue, thanks to ML sound. Happy listening!!!

Hi roberto and thanks for replying again,
I did check the grotto i specs and they seem ideal for what m looking for.I even went into the manual and noticed that it can be placed in a custom made which is a double wammy for me.Now to decide if i need one or two grotto i.Just afraid that 2 may bit a bit harder for me to set up properly.
