New to the forum here . . .

Last night at a local shop, I stumbled upon a set of ML Source floor models for less than half the regular retail price. They sounded great and I almost pulled the trigger but needed spousal approval first.

I was wondering about a few things:

1. Is there any wear and tear areas I should specifically check for since these are the floor models?
2. Any known issues I should check for related to age? The salesman wasn't sure how long they've been used as demos but I assume they've been there for at least 18 months. Of couse, now that I have found the "decoder", I can go back and check for sure.
3. I have a Denon AVR-3300 (circa 1999). Any opinions as to how well these will drive them?

Thanks!

If it comes with the full 5 year warrantee, you are covered for any functional issues. Also for age, get the serial number, and use the online decoder (sticky in main section). You can just print it out and bring it with you.

Now for cosmetic issues?
Look for the usual scratches...also on the woofer itself, and underneath the speaker including the base.

Maybe some Source folks can chime in on more specifics.

Hola. You will not have any problem with your Denon driving the Sources. But keep in mind this> the better electronics, the better the sound through any ML speaker. ML sound is so clean, that many high end brands use ML as a tool design. Expensive does not means better...trust your ears!... Your Denon will give many hours of listening pleasure... also quality is better than quantity (watts). Happy listening,
Roberto.

So I finally got a chance to bring my wife back and surprisingly the floor models were still there.

Unfortunately (of fortunately), my wife wanted to see what the new Electromotion ESLs sounded like. The difference was amazing - much crisper and transparent than the Sources. I thought the Sources sounded good but compared to the ESLs, they sounded muffled.

I really thought I would be bringing the Sources home last night but came home empty handed as I couldn't decide whether the improvement was worth double the price. Since the EM-ESL is essentially a replacement for the source in the same price bracket, I was somewhat shocked they sounded so much better.

Hmmm . . . . decisions, decisions

whatever you do, don't listen to the vistas or the vantages...you just missed a used pair of vantages off ebay for local pickup in naperville for $1400.00
