Shub, I think you jinxed me ! Cocktail hour, I settled into a nice Plymouth Martini and started listening to a little Norah Jones / Peter Malick group and what shows it's ugly head between tracks........microphonic grunge out of my left channel.....arrrrgh !

After a little diagnostic (before second Martini !) I determined my ARC LS-26 to be the culprit. So I replaced both 6H30 triodes and all is beautifull once more ! I thought these 6H30's were supossed to be the cats meow ?? Russian 'Super Tubes' my arse !!

it's 2045 hrs , I've now switched to Scotch !

Dave, are you running the DR's or the "normal" version?

Dave, your spelling is really off. I suggest that you keep your hands in your pockets and not in the equipment until you sober up ! :D:cheers:

Ken, I'll plead ignorant, the tubes read.....6H30 "n" - EB. Note - the quoted n appears to be an upside down upper case U.

Tubes are Sovtek of course, box is labled 6H30PI

Hmmmm..... maybe that's why my spelling is usually out of whack ! not enough Martini's !!!

you know Bernard, my wife volunteers once a week tutoring adult literacy at the local library, hell, with me she wouldn't even need to leave the house !

Dave, if you're feeling adventurous, try a pair of DR's. Brandon sells them here, or Parts Connexion occasionally has them for ~$160/pair. Most folks, including me, find them to be a significant upgrade and I've got a pair in the Modwright pre. IIRC, until recently, BAT used them exclusively for 6H30 applications.

Thanks for the tip Ken...albeit, gulp.....exspensive !

I just may save up my pennies and try a pair.

I've established a "do not post while drinking law":D Trouble is, is bl**dy hard to stick to it!:)

OK, let me get this straight...

A guy who owns a $5000 Plinius amp, a $6000 ARC preamp, an $8500 pair of speakers, and a $3000 turntable with a $600+ cartridge is getting nervous about the price on a $160 pair of vacuum tubes?...

You're joking, right, Dave?...

Man I wish it only cost that much !

OK, Richard....you're right....but comparing them to the standard ones it is a hell of a jump !

Take a leap, Dave !

It is amazing how much turntables cost when you stop and add the cost of all the parts, upgrades, etc.......well, like anything else in this hobby, I guess.

It is a hell of a jump cost wise. I've had the standard tubes in my BAT VK31SE and recently went to DRs. I can't really say it was worth the cost. The only improvement I experienced is slightly lower noise. I'm not sure if that came from the DR tubes or just the fact that the tubes I replaced were three years old and getting noisy. They say that the DRs should last a lot longer, but at 5 times the cost THEY CERTAINLY SHOULD! If I had to do it again, I'd probably take the middle road and spring for the gold pin EHs.

And while you at it, those $50 IC just do not match up with your other equipment costs. :D:D High cost to one is low cost to another....

Tell us what you think of the new tubes if you decide to buy them...

sounds like a 'bait job' there Dan, afterall you know my feelings with respect to high priced wire. :D

Shall do, maybe the Easter Bunny will bring me a pair ! then again, Shirley reffered to me as her 'hero' this AM (I about damn near puked), for I replaced her right front hub assembly on her Mustang (yeah no one repacks wheel bearings anymore...."non-serviceable" part !) so the money I saved her would buy those tubes.......hmmm......

Yeah, IEEE, our discussions.. :D

We all have our price points for items in our setups from wire, tubes, components, tweaks, chairs, etc. Each of us determines what is reasonable irrelevant of what others may think we should do.

I've also had excellent luck with the DR's in my ACT2...

Found them to be quieter and definitely smoother up on top than the stock 6H30's...
