I plan on upgrading my CDP platform, this way I have everything in one box as of now I have a CDP and a outboard DAC. What's your thoughts and/or experiance on this SACD player? Would this be worth the upgrade? Thanks for the remarks!

I heard this player in an all Krell chain (SACD Standard, KAV-280p, KAV-2250) driving Vantages and Summits. Being no fan of the KAV Krell sound I will not comment on it here, especially since the player will sound different with your Pass. One word on build quality and usability, though: the case is built like you'd expect, like a tank. The CD drawer wobbles as much and feels as cheap as on most players. I also felt that the tiny buttons were a little wobbly, definitely not on par with the quality of the case. The player was slow to load SACDs or skip from track to track, and made clunky noises while doing so. While the display is large, only track number and time was shown. That is too minimalistic for me but perhaps there is an option to enable album texts.

I just picked up the Krell today. So far listing to both Redbook and SACD I find the player seems to be abstracting every bit possible from the medium and presenting it in a very clear and musical way. The bass I found to be very focus and tight. The music is being presented in a three-dimensional quality to it while keeping it clean and detailed. I like the clean and minimalist design as it matches well with my Pass equipment. CD loading is a bit slow but I notice the Wadia is the same way. The tray I find not to be any better then what was on my Marantz CDP. The overall build of the unit is like a tank with very clean lines.

Looks great in your system! I like my components in silver, too. I seem to recall that Panamax offer replacement silver face plates.

Nice system, 2 quick questions. Do you prefer listening with the woofer grill covers off , if so what difference did you notice? I see you have the wall damped behind the speakers, is the opposite wall the live end?

No, I think it looks better.

The opposite wall also has a form of acoustic absorption, Ideal is to cut down the glare/smearing and reflection. The heavy curtain behind the equipment increases the stage depth. All these steps bring my sound closer to perfection. Room acoustics is VERY important!

More so than most people realize, and you can get a very significant change in the sound of your setup for the better, with very little money. It is one of the best bang for the $$$ investments in a system.
