Headphone amps

Is anyone using an external headphone amp with thie iPod or similar?

I've been pretty busy the past few weeks which has meant very little listening time. I've had to obtain my daily music-fix from my iPod and Shure E4s - it is just getting to the point where I can't stand it any longer without proper amplification.

It seems there are very few portable / battery operated units around. What are you guys doing in order to get decent sound out of the iPod?

I use a Headroom Total BitHead amp and Etymotic ER-4P headphones with the 4P to 4S adapter cable (effectively ER-4S).

I was was doing it over I would look seriously at the new Micro line of headphone amplifiers from Headroom. I am still considering a tripped out micro or an entry level Desktop amp as my portable listening is either on the commuter train or at my desk / shared cube. When I got the system it was the best system I had but the Summits have showed me what detailed sound really is.
