As if MP3s weren't enough, has anyone else noticed the increasing trend of young teensomethings carrying mobile 'phones around to "listen" to music?

At first I think they've got some w*nky ringtone, but then I realise they're actually listening to that audio abomination! Sort of today's equivalent to the ghetto blaster on the shoulder of the '70s.

Do you mean listening through the phone's speaker?

My admittedly long in the tooth Sony W950i sounds OK through decent headphones...:music:

Amey,

What's old is new again. Remember the little transistor radio? Pretty poor sound but they were pretty darn popular with kids in the fifties. It isn't that we have hit rock-bottom. It is just that different people have different sound quality requirements at different times in their lives. I listened to some speakers as a kid that would make you laugh out loud. I built them myself out of spare parts and they were abominable. But I was proud of them and enjoyed them. Ultimate quality is not everyone's goal, and is certainly not a teenager's goal.

I know this more than anyone - it's just that there is a line where noise ceases to be music. That is, the point where even the most clueless person wouldn't recognise a noise as music.....And I draw that line at a 0.5cm mobile phone "speaker" with a frequency response of 2,300Hz - 2,700Hz!
