Looking to sell my 3 month old esl 11a in gloss black in like mint condition with packaging boxes and accessories like new. Really tried to enjoy these speakers after coming from 804d3 and McIntosh gear but I’m wanting to sell these and go back to the d3 yet again. Local pickup in austin TX, or shipping on buyer. As a fellow 11A owner curious why you are selling. When I got mine I was ready to sell also because they sounded terrible out of the box - thin, tizzy highs, no bass etc.
Mine sound great now after 9 months. There are others here that have documented the lengthy break in.
Just a thought. Otherwise this is a great deal for someone.

I’m a McIntosh guy, but my integrated 8900 doesn’t have enough juice nor am I interested in putting more money down for a mc462. I have a c47 pre just not interested in spending another 9k to actually make these sound decent.

200 watts/channel should be more than enough with the 11A. I am new to Mac -with a MC1502 now and love it.
Agree, older ML's without the powered woofer needed big power to sing.
I don't think it will matter what you connect to the 11A for now- they won't sound right till they break in.

Honestly I was originally set on buying 803d3s but a friend of mine said get the 11s you’ll love them......enjoyed them for a bit and then completely regretted not staying within the d3 family. I loved my 804d3s....hence trying to sell these in order to get a pair of trade these for a used pair etc

What didn’t you like about the sound? My personal opinion is that McIntosh gear with autoformers don’t pair well ML speakers. I had the MC452 paired with the 11As and felt the highs were too soft for my liking. After speaking to a ML dealer, it made sense since both ML panels and the McIntosh amps tend to roll off highs so you can lose the crispness in the highs. Some genres of music sounded great (like Jazz) and others like classical didn’t sound realistic. Of course this is a personal preference.

You shouldn’t have much issue with 200W since the 8900 has autoformers which offset the drop in impendence (<1ohm in the highs). You need an amp with either autoformers or a solid power supply with reserves to handle the 11As.

---- If someone told you that 700 HP in a car is not enough to go on the freeway...would U believe it? The mfg hungry for business prey's on people thinking speakers need 100-300 watts....this is just nuts at best.

I would agree with others. Those speakers are recommended to have 20—550 watts per channel. I can tell you my 15A's don't even get to 50% usage on my amp which is the MC452. And that's at around 90db level listening.

And I'd also agree that you have them too close to the back wall without reflection or absorption on the wall behind them. I switched from 2" Absorption to GIK Evolution PolyFusor – Sound Diffuser/Absorber Combo and 4" 244 Bass Traps at first reflection points. This was all recommended by GIK Acoustics and made a big improvement for me.

But in the end you have to be happy with the product and its sound. So good luck with the sale.

Gee..if 500 watts are good...would not 1000 watts be better or maybe 2000 watts rms...might do the trick....this is silly at best...most speaker never use more than 5 watts rms.....its all about how many premium amp mfg can drive products to the extremists.

This 200 w dual monoblock drives my Prodigy speakers just fine. Aren't those much more demanding than the 11a?

Did you hear the 11A's properly broken in and set up correctly or did you get them solely based on your friend's advice?
This may be a silly question, but are you new to ML stats? Just wondering if you have experience with previous models and their idiosyncrasies.
All we know is that you have a pair of (if new-not broken in) 3 month old speakers and more than enough quality power available.
I completely understand how you feel.
At 3 months, I wanted my SL3's back from my buddy. He recently stopped by and thought the 11A's were awesome now. He joked that initially he didn't want to tell me but thought I made a terrible mistake.

Just over the past few months the new panels on my Prodigy speakers have changed dramatically. At first they were overly bright, just didn't sound right. That's gone now, and they sound outstanding. The "3d sound" is back too. I'm excited to hear them as they probably have some more breaking in to do. This is my first time breaking in electrostats, and it really makes a much bigger impact than in dynamic speakers.

FWIW, I am using PASS XA-60.8 (nominal 60 wpc) to run CLX ART's and they sound wonderful in a 12x18 room.
