Since I am new with Martin Logan speakers, I would like to comment so far my first impressions.
As I previously mentioned in a past post, I aquired a pair of mint Aerius speakers that had a spare set of panels purchased recently that I had put on by my dealer. I am running them with a new Cambridge Audio 840A V2 and use a Cambridge Audio 840C CD player. The amp has absolutely no problem driving the speakers and produces 200watts in a 4 ohm load without barely getting hot.
After hooking everything up and placing them as per the manual for the initial test, I was completely blown away! I could not believe the difference in sound compared to my beloved Focal JmLab 926's! there was no doubt that the ML's are much better to my ears! The sound was so real and seemed to come from all over the room but what really got me the most was the tightness of the bass! I have read that ML speakers (in general) do not really have low bass................well I am not sure but to me, this is not a problem at all! Maybe my sound room is made for these speakers but it is not yet ideal as it is a "hard" room at this point with wood everywhere and nothing on the walls because I just finished it. Anyways, the bass I heard was fast as lightening and low enough for me. I can only imagine when I treat the room! Also, I found them quite easy to place and found the sound I like quickly.
One of the strange things I noticed was when I was playing a movie in my home cinema system, each time the sub would produce large amounts of bass, the little red lights on the ML's would immediately light up for a few seconds! Does anyone know why this is? They are in a seperate system but in the same room and are not used for anything but music. Are they sensitive to vibrations?
To make a long story short, I am deeply impressed with these speakers and I find that I have been very lucky to have found them in such mint condition as if they were never used at all! I can only imagine what pricier models must sound like!
I did another experiment as well with bi-amping using my sons NAD C272 power amp rated at 150w in 8 ohms and double that in 4 ohms. This made the sound even better and the bass was even more pronounced and cleaner! This amp has always impressed me for the price and I am even thinking of getting one as there was that much difference.
For the price I paid for these speakers, I could of never imagined this kind of sound! I can now say I am addicted!
