A friend of mine who is a skilled craftsman with wood and I went to a local lumber yard that carry exotic woods and picked up 9' long board of mahogany for my custom amp platform. After a few days he stopped by with it completed. He did it all by hand including hand planed it. It's finished hand rubbed oil to keep its natural look. It measures 23"D 28"W and 2" thick. Weighs a ton! I believe it helps isolate it from vibrations by the glass shelf it sets on.

Very nice indeed... so tell us about any differences in sound? anything?

I think every tweak I do allows the audio signal to transmit with minimum disruption thru the entire signal pathway. It sounds very clean, alive and highly detailed.

Nice wood! Why is the amp on the top of the rack. All of that mass at the top has to, simple physics here, make the rack less stable than it would be with the amp (mass) at the bottom.

Maybe a cooling issue... But, with the open design of that rack that is not an issue, not to mention that amp does not (or should not) run all that hot anyway. I know mine does not... Maybe he wants to give it the place of honor at the top? It is a rather attractive amp after all! :D

Tha tis a really nice-looking platform you've got there.

Now all you need is to hav your wood-worker friend make a set of matching mahogany rails for your ML's. Now that would be SWEET... :D

The shelfs below the amp are rated for 55lbs and the top one is 150lbs. Amp weighs in at 85lbs. The rack is very stable. Also the ROTEL RB-1090 amp is king!
